“ Brand: L'Oréal / Type: Hair Mask / Subcategory: Hair Treatment „
I have very dry hair and am always on the look out for a good intensive hair mask, so when Boots were recently doing a 3 for 2 on hair products I picked up the L'Oreal Elvive Damage Care mask, hoping for great things.
The mask comes in a yellow pot with a red twist off lid, that does not leak. Inside the pot is 300ml of product, which usually retails for £4.99, so not overly priced in my opinion.
The makers of the product claim that the mask will replenish your hair and protect from breakage. To use the product they suggest that it works best inconjunction with the Damage Care Shampoo, I did not, so the review relates to the results from using the mask with my regular shampoo. The directions for use are that you should apply the mask to wet hair that has been squeezed dry, concentrating on the lengths and ends and leave for 2-3 minutes. The product is enriched with a Active Serum and Ceramide Cement, which is a replica of the natural cement found in hair (did not know that before, maybe that is why my hair is so dry!). The mask aims to fill cracks and smooth cuticles.
The mask is very thick, off white in colour and smells fresh and slighly fruity. I does not tend to linger on your hair for too long and by the time I had styled my hair, using other products I could not longer notice the scent. I used about as much as 1/2 a hens egg, and I have thick, long hair.
So did it work, I would say yes. I applied the mask as per the instructions but left it on longer, about 5 minutes whilst I finished my shower. It stayed on my hair well, and although it did rinse off, it tooks quite a while and a bit of rubbing to ensure all the product was removed. After I had styled my hair, it was left softer, smooth and looking a bit healthier looking, with a bit of a shine. Overall I would recommend this hair mask to others with dry hair, as it does a good job and is well priced.
I originally purchased this product as an alternative to my "regular" brand of intensive hair masque, which was out of stock when I happened to go shopping. At the time this product was on offer for around £5 for a huge 300ml tub, which, combined with being produced by a well-known brand which I generally trust, enticed me to part with my pennies!
My hair is naturally curly and about waist length, so does have the tendency to become dry. This probably isn't helped by the fact that I colour it on a regular basis! Because of this, I tend to use a hair masque or other "deep conditioning" treatment around 2-3 times a week, to keep dryness and split ends at bay! I originally purchased my particular tub of this around February time, and it is just coming to the end of the tub now, which to me represents fantastic value for money over other products I have used in the past. I will definitely purchase this product again in a week or two when my current tub finally runs out.
The packaging on my tub is very similar to that in the Dooyoo image; a round chunky recyclable tub in a bright orange colour, although the lid on my pot is all the maroon colour of the "strip" on the lid in the picture, rather than just having a stripe of this colour on it. I think this may be because my pack also has a "New Format +50% extra" logo on it, so they presumably altered the packaging to highlight this fact. The tub has lasted very well over the several months I have had it, and has no dents or anything despite having been dropped on a fair few occasions, as well as carted about in luggage when I have travelled with this product. The lid is easy to grip and screw open, although it can be a bit tricky to replace the lid properly once you have used the product and have wet hands! I must admit I am not really a fan of bright orange, but I rarely sit around gazing at my bathroom products so this really isn't a huge issue for me!
The hair masque itself is white with a slight pearlescent shimmer to it, and is very thick...the word that seems to sum its texture up best is "gloopy"; although it isn't at all sticky, it is on the thick side and you can turn the tub completely upside down without any falling out! It has a slight floral scent to it but I can't really put my finger on exactly what flower...it is a bit reminiscent of the cheaper "floral" liquid hand soaps that you can get; a not unpleasant fragrance but nothing really fantastic either. Having said that, the fragrance doesn't seem to linger on my hair at all, and as my hair tends to be quite porous I really think if it doesn't scent my hair it probably won't scent anyone's! In this case I think this is an advantage, not only because so many hair products are scented and having a few of them on your hair at once can result in a horrible fragrance war going on on your head...! I also think that it makes the product suitable for men as well as women, as although the initial fragrance is quite girly to me, the fact that it doesn't linger really means anyone could use it so long as they can put up with a floral smell for a few minutes whilst using it!
I tend to use this product in the shower, as I did try it in the bath once when travelling and we had no option but bath or nothing, and I did find that rinsing it out in the bath was a bit of a nightmare and left me with a sort of slmiy feeling all over as the product had got into the bath water and coated my skin! So I definitely would recommend this for shower use only. I usually apply the conditioner after washing my hair, by scooping some out with my fingers, smoothing over my palms then running through my hair. The only slight problem with having to apply it this way is that if you have long nails some of the conditioner does tend to get stuck under your nails, although this isn't difficult to rinse out in the shower. I leave it on for around 5-10 minutes whilst I shave my legs etc! The packaging suggests leaving it on for 1-2 minutes, but I always think the longer you can leave something like this on, the better the result (up to a point, obviously!), and have found that leaving it on that few extra minutes does seem to make a beneficial difference and make my hair smoother than when I have been in a rush and only left it on the "required" 2 minutes.
The conditioner spreads easily through the hair; I usually brush it through after applying it to make sure it gets all the way through my hair, and it seems to help to detangle my hair and make brushing through very easy as well. It does take a thorough rinsing after application to get all of the residue out of my hair; I usually rinse, brush, repeat and then give it a third and final rinse to be sure! If you don't rinse properly it can leave your hair looking very greasy, never a great look!
I definitely notice the benefit to my hair once I have used this product. It makes the hair shaft feel a lot smoother and silkier (a challenge for many products when faced with curly hair), and also seems to help promote a nice healthy shine. I have definitely noticed less breakage and split ends on my hair since using this product.
Overall I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a good quality, reasonably priced hair masque or intensive conditioner. It really does seem to dramatically improve the condition of my hair, lasts a good long time and has durable packaging. I am not a huge fan of the scent of this product or the packaging, but it seems harsh to knock any stars off for that when the product itself is so good and performs so well, so I will give this product 5/5 stars.
Thank you for reading :)
As I regularly get highlights put in my hair, and I also blow dry and straighten my hair quite a lot too, its not a surprise that sometimes my hair can get very dry and damaged. When I normally get a shower, I just use shampoo and conditioner, but what I found is that after I had applied the shampoo, I never used a conditioner strong enough to detangle my knotty messy hair. Well I decided it was time for a change, and one of my friends had told me about hair masks that you can buy which you leave on for a few minutes and it detangles and smoothes your hair out! So the next day I popped down to my local Boots, and saw that there was a deal on the L'Oreal elvive hair products. So I bought this hair mask, and hoped that my damaged hair would start seeing improvement ASAP! I got it on a deal which was 2 for £5, so I got that and another L'Oreal elvive product, which I think was quite a good deal. There is also 330ml in the tub.
L'Oreal elvive damage care hair masque claims to 'deeply nourish hair from root to tip. Your hair is strengthened with long lasting protection.' I was excited to try this to see the results! The hair masque comes in a yellow and red tub. The red lid screws off easily, and I am glad that it is in a tub rather then a bottle, as I can quickly get the amount of conditioner out, without having to squeeze out the product, also I can see how much product I have remaining. However one disadvantage of it being in a tub, is that when you try and apply this in the shower, water gets in the tub quite easily, making the product go runny, so you have to be very careful. The conditioner is a whitish colour, and I personally think it smells lovely! I cant quite put my finger on the smell but its just a strong nice smelling smell.
So that night in the shower, I shampooed my hair as normal, and of course after I had used my shampoo, my hair was still knotty messy, and just a tangled mess. So anyway, I turned off the shower, squeezed out the moisture from my hair, and I got out, and went to the mirror so I would be able to see what I was doing properly. And what I did was I scooped out quite a fair sized amount of the conditioner, it was quite a big blob, the conditioner is quite thick and not very runny, but this is good as when you apply it on your hair it doesn't just slide off. I then rubbed it between my fingers, and started running my fingers from the top of my hair right down to the tips of my hair. I did this until my hair was completely covered in the product. Then I got my large comb, and started trying to comb through my hair. At first it was hard to get through my hair, but eventually I managed to comb through my hair from root to tip, I could feel no knots in my hair, and it felt nice and smooth, I couldn't believe I was actually combing through my hair, I had never been able to do that before when my hair was wet and it is normally just too tangled! It says on the container that you should leave this product on for 1-2 minutes, but I did leave it on for about 4, as I wanted it to work quite well. I then got back in the shower to wash off the product, it is very important that you wash off all the conditioner properly, because I have heard cases where if you leave it in and don't wash it off properly then it makes your hair hard and greasy when it dries. Well anyway when I washed off the product my hair felt so smooth and silky!
When I got out the shower I blow dried my hair gently, and when it was dry, my hair did look a lot healthier, my mum even said to me when I went downstairs that my hair looked in a better condition then normal. My hair didn't look as frizzy and dry. I was happy with the result. However I don't know if this product actually improved my hair condition for a long period of time, as when I next washed my hair, I decided not to use this and just use my normal conditioner (as I only wanted to use this around once a week) to see if my hair was still as good quality. Of course it wasn't as easy to comb through, and didn't look as healthy when I had dried it. I would say that L'Oreal Damage care hair masque, is perfect to use to detangle your hair, and make it look healthier for a few days. However it only does last a few days, so I would say if you want it to look healthier all the time, you would have to use it more then once a week. I have been using this product for months now, and it has only just about run out, so I would say it was good value for money!
Overall it detangles your hair, gives your hair a nice smell, and makes it look healthier for a few days, however it does not make it look healthier over a long period of time, you would have to use it regularly.
Thanks for reading my review :)
After using the L'Oreal damage care serum and being really pleased with the results, I decided to try the hair mask from the same range. This is a product that is formulated especially for damaged or brittle hair and they say it will replenish and nourish the hair from root to tip to give it strength and a 'long lasting protection'.
I wouldn't describe my hair as being brittle, but it is fairly damaged from colouring and daily straightening, so I do use a mask on it once a week to help retain the moisture and hopefully keep it in reasonable condition.
This particular mask comes in a yellow pot with deep red accents as you can probably see from the picture above. I know it's cheap, so you wouldn't really expect luxury packaging, but I do think the tub is a bit bright and busy looking, and a more minimal packaging would look better.
Using this product is really simple. You simply shampoo your hair as normal, and then squeeze out any excess moisture, before applying a layer of this product to the hair. It only needs to be left on for 1-2 minutes which is fantastic for those of us who are time strapped, as I've used similar products in the past which needed to be left on for much longer.
The mask is a glossy white cream and is only just slightly thicker than a regular conditioner. When applying it, I would advise not to put it near the roots - only the lengths of your hair, because with it being so heavy there's a chance it will make your roots greasy. It's a really smooth consistency, so glides through the hair really easily and you don't need to use loads either, which makes it economical.
I quite like the smell of this product too, it's quite floral, and has a sort of powdery undertone to it. A little old fashioned perhaps, but I really like it, it reminds me of summer.
So far, so good, but the important part is the results that the product gives, and unfortunately this is where I have to be more negative.
Firstly, I should say that this leaves my hair detangled and smooth like any other conditioner would, which is a good thing. Usually though, in the day or two after using a mask or deep conditioning treatment, my hair feels incredibly silky and just generally in good condition, but that isn't something I found with this product. In fact, after using this, my hair didn't look or feel any different to the way it does when I use a regular conditioner, which I found quite disappointing.
Also, I would have to refute the claims that this protects the hair against further damage. I had been using this product for around 3 weeks when I had my hair cut. Obviously having my hair cut, all the split ends were cut off. I continued to use this product, but I was surprised at how quickly I began to notice split ends again. I wasn't expecting miracles really, but considering that around 3-4 weeks after having the damaged ends of my hair cut off, it was looking particularly damaged again, leads me to believe that it hadn't really offered any protection to my hair.
This comes in a 200ml tub which costs around £3.99 from Boots.
Overall, I ended up being really disappointed with this product. To me, it didn't seem to do anything that a regular conditioner wouldn't, and I don't think it offered any protection from future damage either.
This is an amazing remedy for the dry and damaged hair. I have thick hair which easily gets dry/damaged because of the straightening irons and curling tongs that i use regularly. And for me, this is a god-send.
Available at most supermarkets, it is quite affordable. Usually retails within £3-£4 for a 200ml pot.
I use it with L'Oreal damage care range shampoo and conditioner. I usually alternate conditioner and this masque as i think this masque not only repairs but also conditions. It is a rinse out masque- just apply after shampoo and conditioner, leave for 2-3 minutes and then rinse. Use regularly and you will see the difference of how your hair feels. You need to use a little amount- probably about 1 tsp for shoulder length hair. So this 200ml does last for many washes- for me it lasts for 20-25 washes.
It is quite thick in consistency and very easy to apply. And to complement it has great aroma too.
It replaces the hair ceramides that gives the normal healthy lustrous hair. After every wash, you find the hair feeling soft and silky and easily manageable.
Its use is not restricted for dry/damaged hair only. Because of the present climate and lifestyle, i think using this for any hair type regularly will help maintain the hair quality.
