I first began trying shampoo and conditioners from L'Oreal's Elvive range over a year ago and was suitably impressed. My initial purchases were the Nutri-Gloss shampoo and conditioner and more recently the Nutri-Gloss Crystal shampoo and conditioner and I have been quite happy using these, stocking up whenever on promotion or part of 3 for 2 offers etc.
A few weeks ago, I noticed the larger 400ml bottles in the entire L'Oreal Elvive range were all part of a two for £5 promotion at my local Morrisons, which offered quite a saving when considering they are usually individually priced at around £3.99 each, so I decided to buy a shampoo and conditioner and take advantage of this offer.
I was looking for the usual Nutri-Gloss bottles I have been purchasing, but sadly there were none left on the shelves, although the rest of the Elvive range (which is quite extensive) seemed to be available. As the offer was too good to pass by, I decided that maybe this would be a good time to try another shampoo and conditioner from the Elvive range and after looking at the various bottles, I decided this Elvive Smooth & Polish was going to be one of my purchases.
My main reason for choosing this particular conditioner was that I used to enjoy using Pantene Smooth & Sleek until recently when it seemed to begin having a different effect on my hair. I wasn't sure if they had changed the conditioner somewhat, but this was when I began trying different conditioners and looking at this one, I was curious to see how it would perform on my hair as I did used to like the smooth, sleek look I achieved when using Pantene.
Elvive Smooth & Polish Conditioner is a hair care product specifically designed for fine to normal hair. Enriched with Keratin-Polish [KP] technology, L'Oreal state the formula helps to smooth wisps and flyaways strand by strand, leaving hair looking perfectly polished.
I have long hair which is prone to becoming dry at the ends and so can look dull sometimes if I am not careful, however my hair can also be greasy at the roots and so when using a smooth and sleek type of conditioner I tend to apply more to the lengths and ends of my hair and less at the roots. I also have a natural curl to my hair and sometimes in wet or humid conditions this can cause my hair to curl and then become frizzy with flyaway strands, which is another reason I prefer to use a product which may help smooth my hair. I also often use straighteners on my hair to obtain a sleek look too, but of course the heat from straighteners can damage your hair and therefore I am always keen to use products which can restore shine and gloss and help prevent my hair from becoming dry and dull.
I also wash my hair often, sometimes every day, because if I don't then it begins to feel greasy at the roots and dirty, which makes me feel uncomfortable.
I used the matching shampoo in this range first and was pleased with how it cleaned my hair and lathered well and then after rinsing it off thoroughly, I applied this conditioner.
I found it had the same creamy smooth texture as the shampoo, although the consistency looked and felt a little thicker.
Because of its thicker consistency, it wasn't as easily absorbed into my hair as the conditioners I have beein using recently, but this wasn't really an issue for me, although I did find that I was using a little more conditioner to cover my hair then I have been recently.
I worked through the strands with my fingers and found they were gliding easily through my hair leaving it feeling tangle-free and smooth. I paid particular attention to the lengths of my hair as usual and much less at the roots, where my hair has a tendancy to become greasy.
Rinsing out the conditioner was a quick and easy process and my hair felt soft and smooth.
After drying my hair I was quite happy with how my hair looked as it was fairly smooth, although I noticed right away that my hair felt a little heavier than usual, even though I had rinsed the conditioner out thoroughly and it didn't feel as if it had left any residue behind.
Towards the end of the day, I thought my hair was looking slightly lank at the ends and so next time I used less conditoner and whilst I achieved a better result and one I was quite happy with, I felt overall that the Nutri-Gloss conditioners I have been using recently are perhaps better for my hair right now.
I have kept using this conditioner and also the matching shampoo to use them up and am fairly happy with the smooth, soft and clean look I get after washing my hair. However, I think my hair looks slightly better when using other products.
One thing I can say for certain after using this conditioner is that I have found with continued use it certainly helps prevent my hair from drying at the ends, but I just have to be careful to use just the right amount to achieve a look I am happy with, as I have found I can be a bit hit and miss at getting this right.
Overall, I think my hair benefits more from using one of the other L'Oreal conditioners, but this is still a fairly acceptable product for my hair, especially if I get the application amount right. I would prefer to buy the Nutri-Gloss conditioner, but if this was the only one available and on promotion then I would buy it again.
