A leave in hair conditioner which makes hair more manageable

The Smooth-Silk Conditioning Smooth Spray by L'oreal Elvive is essentially a leave in conditioner which promises to calm fly away ends and signs of frizziness. It promises to be so light weight that it won't weigh down the hair and it will quickly detangle the hair. You should be left with hair that is more manageable, silky and fuller for up to 48 hours. The product has been designed specifically for hair that is fine to medium and prone to flyaway ends and frizziness.

      How does it work?
The special ingredient within the formula is Silk Protein which coats the hair with a barrier of protection. It smoothes the strands of hair and prevents damp from reaching them and causing frizziness. It nourishes the hair and allows it to become manageable but because the substance is so lightweight, it won't weigh the hair down and cause it to appear flat.

How do you use the product?
The product can be used in two ways. It can be applied to damp hair which has just been washed and sprayed liberally or you can apply it lightly to dry hair between washes to give it a conditioning boost. L'oreal says that you can use this instead of a conditioner but unless your hair is in extremely good condition, I wouldn't risk doing that.

      Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a honey coloured cylindrical plastic bottle through which you can see the liquid inside. It has some writing on it which gives you more information about the product, a pretty hologram and the ingredients. It has a lid to protect the bottle from releasing the liquid if you are carrying it around with you. To release the product, you push down on the dispenser.

The product will cost you around £5 and for that money, you will receive around 200ml of the conditioning spray. It can be bought from most department stores, large supermarkets and from many online websites so you may find it for cheaper if you shop around.

      My thoughts
The product has a faint honey scent to it but this is mixed in with a slightly chemical aroma that smells a little like hair spray but this fades quite quickly after use so there is just a sweetness left on the hair. The dispenser is easy to push, even when holding the bottle in one hold so you can be specific with your use of the product.

The product is released as a fine mist but it is still quite direct in its application. The range on the mist is quite impressive as well as quite annoying because the range goes about 50cm away. This means that you need to hold it arms length if you want to get a light, even application, particularly on dry hair. If you hold it too close, you will get a blob of the product on one bit of hair, while the rest is neglected. You can control the speed and how much is dispensed by not pushing the dispenser all the way down.

On damp hair, the product works well. It gives my hair another burst of moisture which means that it is in a better condition than when I use just a conditioner by itself. I use it all over including the length of the hair and the roots. My hair seems moderately less frizzy and tangles less. It also has more of a shine.

When used on dry hair, the product needs to be used with care. If you spray too much or spray too close, your hair will end up looking greasy. I use it from a distance purely on the end of my hair. It sorts out the frizziness and tames away fly away ends. It gives it a shine, makes it look healthier and hydrated and makes quite a noticeable difference. It doesn't weigh the hair down and is easier to brush. It's a good product to have with you in your bag when you're on the go although the bottle is quite heavy.

All in all, this product gives your hair a bit of extra care. When used carefully, it can give really lovely results and makes your hair more manageable and look in a better condition. The product is long lasting and serves its purpose well. I'm sure there are much better leave in conditioners out there but for the price, this one suits me just fine.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A great conditioning treatment

I have always washed my hair every day as by day two it is getting greasy and lifeless at the roots. Unfortunately this also means that I've dried out the ends really badly by blow drying it.

I tried this product in the hope that it would help to ease the dryness and maybe help stop my hair from frizzing the day after it is washed.

I've been spraying it on my damp hair after washing and conditioning as usual, and then applying a heat protection spray over the top before blow drying. I've found that my hair actually lasts another wash after using this product, so I've been to go two days without washing, which is helping the frizz. My roots still aren't as fresh the day after, but the length still looking good makes a huge difference and encouranges me not to overwash it, which was probably contributing to the grease building up.

My hair just seems much more manangeable since I've been using this and I'm going to continue!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Excellent product. The answer I've been looking for my whole life.

My hair is a nightmare.. for years I've been trying to figure out what to do with it and it's only recently that I've found the solution.

It's very thin, very fly away, very out of control and very dry. If I let it dry down, blow dry it, sleep with it down or just about anything it ties itself in knots no matter how many times I brush it. When I go out in the wind or the rain I look like I've got an afro. I've tried layering it, straightening it everything.. nothing would bring my unruly hair under control!

Recently, at the end of my tether, I mentioned my problems to my hair dresser (who by the way was getting equally frustrated with my hair). She suggested trying leave-in conditioners, at this point I was willing to try anything to get something that would get my hair under control. So, when I was at ASDA's and saw this on offer I thought it at least worth a try.

      ~*~ The Packaging ~*~

This comes in a see-through yellow plastic bottle with a push pump lid covered with a plastic lid the same colour as the bottle. On the front it tells you that it's by L'Oreal and is for fly-away, frizzy hair. It also tells you that it's a light weight conditioning spray and claims to last 48 hours.

The bottle holds 200ml of conditioner.

      ~*~ The Use ~*~

This is incredibly simple to use, simply spray on your hair either dry or damp and then brush through as normal.

It says that it can be used in place of your normal conditioner but I've found that I need that as well. I use enough to dampen my hair but this quickly dries to give the weightless leave in feel they promise.

      ~*~ Effectiveness ~*~

This has been my lifesaver! It really does deliver on it's promises. I couldn't decide between this or the damage repair as I needed something to both control my frizz and let me dry my hair down and sleep with it down without having to deal with a big mess of knots in the morning! However this does it both and is now a permanent addition to my bathroom!

I've had comments on how much more conditioned my hair looks, I can now happily wear my hair down and sleep without tying it back and know for sure that my hair will be close enough to tangle free at the end of the day and when I wake up.

I left it so long to try this product because I had heard that they don't work and make very little difference and I'm not denying that for some people this probably is true but for me I really wish I had tried it earlier as it's been the solution to all my hair problems.

I will say however that the bottle states 48hour protection from frizz and flyaways but I have found that I need to apply it every day. The bottle still lasts me almost a month and for £3 a bottle I see it as money well spent.

This for me, is the answer I'd been looking for for years.

      ~*~ Availability and Pricing ~*~

This is widely available in supermarkets, Boots, Superdrug and online but prices do vary so it is worth shopping around.

      ~*~ My Opinion ~*~

I love this product, it smells great and the smell does last. I can't really describe it, it's almost fruity without the sweet smell you can get with some fruit scented products. For me, it really has done exactly what it promises and conditioned my hair, controlled the frizz and flyaways and detangled it when no other product has been able to. I can't recommend it highly enough and it gets 5 out of 5 from me.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Not a good product from L'Oreal at all!

When it comes to my hair I'm really fussy about it to be honest with you. My hair is incredibly hard to look after with prone to greasy roots, a frizzy mid section and dry/split ends. I colour it jet black rather too often and use numerous heated appliances on it on a weekly basis!

Through me feeling guilty about the way I treat my hair when I was recently in Boots and spotted this leave in conditioner spray costing £3.99 bottle I decided to splash out and treat my hair to it!

      The Packaging:

200ml light yellow, see-through cylinder plastic bottle with a clear push button pump action sprayer to the top of it and a yellow lid/cap that fits securely over that. On the front of the bottle I am told that it is L'Oreal Elvive Smooth-Silk 'Light' Conditioning Smooth Spray 'Daily Silkiness' and that it is a weightless and leave-in formula, that it contains fruit protein and that it is '48hr Anti-Flyaway, Anti-Frizz and that it is for fine to medium hair prone to flyaways or frizz. On the back of the bottle other information listed includes being told a bit about the product and what to expect from it, directions for use are listed, warnings and ingredients are given and contact details for the manufacturer are also stated. Nice enough bottle that is informative enough and easy to use....this is.

      The Spray Itself:

Well first off lets talk about what this 'should' do for your hair. It is meant to be a light conditioning spray that you can use after shampooing and/or conditioning your hair for a little added hydration or you can use this on dry hair for a bit of refreshment and nourishment. It is meant to protect the hair from the effects of damp and humid weather and to help prevent/tame frizz without weighing it down. It is meant to smooth hair and help it stay that way too!

Using this is ever so simple. Spray it in/on to the hair and don't be shy with it particularly on damp/wet hair. I spray a few pumps of this clear, silky soft liquid that is like water all over my hair and comb it through before styling. It has a lovely fresh, sweet fragrance of a blend of fruit and flower oils and then of course you style your hair as you normally would! I have used this sparingly on dry hair too and just directed it where I felt my hair needed a little added softness.

      Results:

Well I like everything about this...apart from the fact it does nothing for me at all lol. I mean I like the bottle and the promises given, I like the fragrance and the ease of use and ease of distributing it through my hair. I like the way that when I have used it I can't feel it but sadly that's where benefits end with this!

It doesn't soften, smoothen or stop frizz or flyaways. Sure it has no adverse effect on my barnet however it is a total waste of money in my humble opinion. I was expecting a light conditioning spray at least to soften my wayward locks but feel it's a waste of time using it!

The fragrance lingers on the hair pleasantly for a couple of hours after using it but that's it in my case sadly and me, I wouldn't buy this again in the future sadly!

Available in all chemists and supermarkets etc.
