La Riche Directions
Advantages: long lasting, vibrant, amazing price, easy application, nasty hairdye smell vanishes fast!
Disadvantages: very messy in the bathroom
I have recently started using directions because of the price(£3.50 on ebay!), the conditioning element and especially because of the range of tones for each colour on offer and it has been one of the best I have used. I have tried 'poppy red', 'coral red' and am currently using 'vermillion red', I plan to try out 'fire' and 'pillarbox red' next as I am still experimenting with finding the perfect colour for me. Another great feature of directions is that you can mix colours together to make your own unique colour, although I have not tried this myself yet. I have to point out I have previously used dyes where I mix peroxide into it to lighten my hair so the colours show up in my hair really well because of this, I actually have dark brown hair which the colour will not be as bright on and would probably take on just a subtle hint of the colour used.
At first I was not enterirely impressed with the packaging and especially the smell, it looked and smelt like a pot of paint! However the application was extremely easy (although when I washed it out I did the stain the bath but with a quick scrub and rinse it was fine!) and I was amazed by the vibrant colour and how soft my hair felt. As the colour is semi-permenant, the colour will wash out slightly everytime you wash your hair, so make sure to use dark towels and don't go to bed with your hair wet!! Also, make sure you wear gloves as it can stain your fingers for a day or two and might do when you wash your hair the first few times.
I now have a routine of doing this for my roots by using directions to do the rest and top up colour whenever i need an extra boost of colour! I do this as using the 'conditioning' gel colour of directions is a lot better for my hair as it is fairly thin and I'm one of those peopel who washes their hair almost everyday. Which brings me onto my other point that the colour lasts for a long time, especially compared to the apparently 'permanent' dyes I have used before which are double and often triple the price of these.
One pot easily covers my hair too which is midlength and I probably don't have to use the entire pot, I now also like the pots because they are useful to keep arts and crafts bits inside!
Summary: have used many dyes and find directions to be best!
