My hair is naturally what I would describe as 'dark blonde' but I have been dying it dark brown for several years now. When I was in the hairdressers recently, the hairdresser commented that my hair was very fair underneath. I told her that I am naturally a dark blonde/mousy brown colour, but she showed me with a second mirror, and my hair did look very blonde underneath where I obviously hadn't dyed it properly. If I thought that was bad though, there was worse to come! She parted my hair at the side and lifted the top section up. Along the roots of my hair was a bright blonde stripe, the rest of my hair being dark brown! How I had not noticed this before, I don't know, ... Read the complete review

Right girls and boys, apparently this is a no ammonia tone on tone colourant, or what I would call a wash-in wash-out hair dye. Or so they’d like you to think! This hair dye lasts for ages. (more than the 6 weeks as the box says. I’ve used this particular hair dye for the last 2 months, and knowing what I was dooing to my hair for the last 3 years, I thought I’d give it a bit of a breather. As I don’t mind having a hair colour that is false (I was a red head for a while, then blond, then black, etc…..), I thought I’d stick with the plum (number 50 if you need to know), even though I would personally call it purple. ... There's not a lot of choice when you're buying semi-permanent hair dyes. Henna makes you look like a greying German woman gone orange in desperation. Many other brands don't have attractive shades. In my opinion this is one of the best options, and I've used it 75% of the time when I want to have a darker hair colour for the winter. I've used Mahoghany and Plum, but have no experience of the other colours. When it comes to setting up, the procedure is a bit fiddly. The cheap plastic gloves provided are always tricky to get on. Plastic bags would probably work better. You have to mix the two bottles together to activate the dye. This ... Read the complete review

I have been going grey since I was 15. Early on I decided that colouring my hair was the only answer. A disastrous episode with bleach, when I tried to look like Marilyn Monroe and ended up looking more like Myra Hindley, led to the heartfelt resolution that I would stay dark, and opt for something in the burgundy line (you can tell I was a teenager in the 1980's). I am glad I did now, as a "friend" recently unearthed a photograph from this period of me wearing my favourite tartan mini-skirt, leggings and Doc Marten boots. Due to the bleach giving a rather gingerish tint to my hair I looked horribly like "Jimmy" off Russ Abbott's Mad House, ... Read the complete review

Movida promises the earth and comes up with nothing special at all! I can only vouch for the auburn colourant - I have not been brave (or stupid) enough to try any of the others! If you want a completly unnatural look then movida is for you! It gave me a dull dyed look which for a tone on tone colurant was not what I was expecting. It is very easy to apply you get the usual step by step instructions telling you what to do, the usual naff gloves that you always end up putting your fingers throw and a tiny bottle of conditioner ( that smelt great) I will say two good things about it - it covered my grey hairs well and it does not drip! This is not on my I ... Read the complete review
