      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A high quality gel

Back in my college days I often used to spike my hair and as such spent a long time trying to find the best way to keep my spikes vertical come rain, sleet and severe head-banging. My friend used candle wax in his hair to make his spikes super-sturdy but I didn't really want to go that far (my mum would have killed me if I'd used all her expensive candles as a substitute for hair gel!)

After a lot of experimenting, I came across Fructis hard glue. At £2.20 for a 150ml tube, it isn't one of the cheapest products out there, but it certainly does what it says on the tin (or tube, as the case may be.)

Applying the gel is straightforward. The tube has an easy to open flip-up lid. Simply squeeze a little into your palm and apply. The gel works best on wet hair, as wet hair is easier to mould into the position you want. However, I have applied the gel to dry hair and it does a fine job at keeping hair upright, although you do need to apply more gel than normal. The gel smells nice, very fruity, although if you use too much the aroma starts to become overpowering.

Once applied, the gel begins to harden straight away, although it can take up to 10 minutes for the gel to harden fully. A handy tip- if you want the gel to harden more quickly, a short blast from a hairdryer on a low setting works wonders.

Unlike other gels I've tried, Fructis doesn't give your hair that "crunchy" feel to it once the gel has hardened. Instead, your hair still looks and feels soft and smooth, yet at the same time is able to withstand fairly strong winds. Fructis fares less well with heavy rain, as just like with most other gel products the rain washes out the gel, leaving your hair limp and lifeless. This is where my friend with the candle-wax hair wins - candle wax is much more resilient to rain!

Overall, if you're looking for a product that gives your hair a firm hold then give Fructis a try. It's not cheap but you definitely get what you pay for.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

My favourite gel, will use for a long time to come!

      Really is hard.

My personnal favourite gel, Garnier Fructis Hard Glue is a cracker.

Price: The product isn't exactly cheap at around £2.50 a bottle; however it lasts you a very long time due to its strength, you dont need much! So it's certainly value for money.

Hold: The gel is bar far and away the best I've ever had for holding your hair in a style for a long time, I can be out the house for 8 or 9 hours and when I return my hair is in the exact same style it was when I left. The product is also able to withstand a bashing, rain, hoods and much more; your hair will hold firm.

Look: The gel also gives a wet look, which I believe, makes any style look much better.

Packaging: The product comes in a bright green tube, which catches your eye when walking along the endless aisles of hair products.

In summary: This is a great product and will be used on my hair for a long time to come.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A good hair gel for thin hair to give it a long-lasting hold

I used this hair gel a while ago but gave up on it, as it didn't suit my hair. It comes in a 150ml plastic tube, which is translucent and green. On the front is the Garnier logo and it has a purple colour to signify the 'Hard' variety to give rock hard hair. The tube has a darker green cap, which flicks open easily so you can squeeze out the gel.

The gel is soft and wet, so gives your hair a wet look. However, the gel turns very hard within 15 minutes or so and will give your hair a long-lasting hold throughout the day. The problem I found with the gel is that because it's so wet and heavy, it actually is harder to stick up your hair and by the time it hardens, my hair fell back down again.

The hair gel has a really nice aroma, which will be quite predominant throughout the day. It sells very light and fruity but somewhat sickening when you keep using it. You can buy the 150ml tube for around £2.20 at Tesco and it should last a long time if you use it to spike up hair, as you need barely any.

It does a good job and gives your hair a sticky texture to play with, but it's not good for thicker hair as your hair will just flop back down. It works best with thin hair and you only need a tiny bit. You should apply a bit more if needed as it quickly becomes dry on your hands and in your hair if you have dry hair. I would recommend trying it out if you have thin hair and want to style it and give it a long-lasting hold!

      Thanks for reading,

      Dan ©

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

A hair styling product that I found poor

I tried using Garnier Fructis Style Hard hair gel but it didn't do the trick for me. It is quite a thick-textured gel and holds your hair in position pretty well, but I was disappointed with the look it gave my hair. It made it look very wet and somewhat greasy. It also makes your hair literally rock hard once it settles, which makes me dislike the gel as I prefer a more natural, styled look.

For some, this gel will be ideal to style your hair with but not for me. It comes in a tube, which is translucently green. The lid is opaque and darker green, which flips open so you can squeeze out some gel. The gel has a nice smell to it - fruity and sweet. It is a smell that lasts all day, but one that I have become sick of.

You use the gel by applying some to your hands, rubbing them together to great a slimy sticky solution and then massaging it into your hair before styling it. At first, it adds a considerable amount of weight to your hair and seems to drag it down a bit, making it hard to style. For people with very thin hair, it may do a better job as your hair should stay in that position.

        Thanks for reading

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Strong hold, long lasting with no residue !

My son spends more time in front of the mirror in the morning than I do. Why ? Well, he has to get his hair styled in exactly the right way and I mean 'exactly'....the slightest hair out of place and he will throw a tantrum of monstrous proportions...talk about vanity ! He is 9 years old and has his first 'girlfreind', so he's out to impress. As far as he's concerned, strutting in a 'macho-like' way across the playground, just won't cut it if the image is wrong.

Up to now, we have always used the stores own brand 99p tubs of hair gel to style his mop, and we get through what seems like gallons of the stuff, this is because you need a whole handful of the 'sludge' to get any effect, and then it is left gloopy and sticky....Yeeeuch ! So after a particularly stressful day with a moody 9yr old 'early teenager', I was relaxing in front of the telly enjoying a lovely cold glass of wine with the pesky cat nipping around my ankles (honestly if it's not one thing it's another) when an advert' for Fructis Style Extreme Hard Glue Gel caught my eye. I then resolved to go hunt some down the very next day.

I bought the 150ml tube from Boots , setting me back £2.99. Normally I would get 3 tubs of the cheaper stuff for this price, so this better be good !..... It comes in a lime green tube with 'Hard Glue' splashed across the front. The blurb on the back reads "Fed up with dull and boring hairstyles? With Garnier Fructis Style you are in control. Create stop n'stare styles whenever and however you like": sounds just the thing ! It claims to create "Extreme, gravity defying rock hard styles" containing 'micro fruit waxes' not too sure what they do and it doesn't tell you, but it sounds good !! The science bit on the back tries to explain how this product works...."The fibre glue texture reinforced with extra powerful holding technology allows you to create the most extreme styles that hold as hard as a rock". The consistency is gloopy, thick and feels very sticky, but it smells gorgeous.

Ok, it sounds good , looks nice and smells lovely, but does it do the job ? Before school the following morning, I smoothed a tiny nut sized blob through his fine hair (as recommended) , it spreads very easily through hair, and left him to comb through and sculpt with his fingers, whilst I washed the sticky substance off my hands, it actually came off very easily. In minutes my son had obtained the desired look.....spiked all over...and in half an hour it had dried and really was rock solid, and not at all sticky.....positively dangerous in fact (but only if you're into headbutting). Off he went to proudly strut his stuff in the playground.

At the end of the school day, his style has normally dropped and just looks a mess, today, however, it was a different story, after a strenuous day of football, athletics and girl chasing....his style really had stood the test.....it was as perfect as when he had left in the morning, and what's more , there was no white residue, a problem we had with the cheaper brands.

It states on the tube that it brushes and washes out easily. Whilst I did not find that it was easy to 'brush' out (it all got tangled in the comb) I will say that it does wash out very easily with only the mildest of shampoos !

Over all this is a very good product for any would be style icon and buying the cheaper brands has proved to be a false economy, we are still only 2/3 of the way through this after 7 weeks so it really does go a long way indeed ! The added benefit for me, is that, as I mentioned, it smells lovely and I have managed to cleverly convince my son that there is no need for 'aftershave' (god forbid) as this smells just as good...Hee Hee ...result !

One thing I will say, if you like the natural soft and silky feel after applying gel, then this is not for you.

I will not list all the ingredients but amongst others it contains :

alcohol, caster oil, glycerides, acrilates and fragrance.

My son has sensitive skin and this does not irritate him. The tube itself is recyclable.

Available widely from most chemists and good supermarkets.

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

          Something that does the job!!!

If you're like me then you need to make sure that your hair is perfect. I have recently had my hair cut shorter that I usually do, that's when the problems started. My current hair gel was no longer doing the job. It was just making my hair look wet, which is not what I wanted. So I began to look at different options available to me. I spent a while reading all the labels on several products in my local boots store and this is what I settled for

**********Garnier Fructis Style Hard Glue 150ml***************

          ***Price and Availability***

Garnier Fructis Style Hard Clue is available in the following retailers

          Boots~ £2.99

          Asda~ £2.26

          Tesco~ £2.17

          Morrisons~ £2.89

If you're lucky enough you may get a deal when you buy from some retailers. Some often do BOGOF~ Buy one get one free

          **************************************************************

          **Packaging**

If green is your colour then this is a must, packaging is bright green in colour and is made of plastic. You are able to see through the packaging due to the sleek design. You have the Garnier Fructis Style on the front of the glue and on the reverse you have all the information regarding ingredients. The plastic is a soft plastic allowing you to ensure that you get all the glue out of the container. The lid is easily opened by hand and of course it's closed by hand too. The lid is made of a hard plastic which is an even darker green. This size is 150ml

Sizes~ the gel is 6inches in height and 3inches at the widest part.

My Comments- I would certainly say that this glue looks sleek in the stylish colour that Garnier use. I love the idea that you can actually see how much glue is left in the pot. This is a tube that you do not mind leaving out in your room as its cool.

          Overall 10/10 for package

          **************************************************************

          **Description**

It's Glue that is supposed to give you long lasting ultimate hold. The glue is made with fruit Micro waxes that is suppose to allow you to design your hair in such away that people will look twice at you. Complete control to design your hair the way you want it and then its set to a rock hard finish.

          **************************************************************

          **Texture**

It's a gel and that is exactly what you get when you squeeze the required amount on to your palm. The gel is very sticky and I believe it to be like super glue, when you rub the glue in our hand it goes all stringy and makes little bubbles. It's clear glue in colour.

My Comments- I have to say that I love the felling of this glue its amazing when you have all the glue in your hand; it reminds me of being a kid

          Overall 10/10 for texture

          **************************************************************

          **Smell**

The second that you open that lid you are greeted with a beautiful smell of fruits from the glue. For some people this may be a little string. It's a very flowery smell which is honestly lovely a very refreshing and makes you feel good when putting your glue in place. When you apply the glue to your hair you can still smell the flowery smell, I have to add that the smell will certainly not be as strong as it is when you open the lid. You can expect the smell to disappear after a few hours of it being in your hair.

          My Comments~ LOVE IT

          Overall 10/10 for smell

          **************************************************************

          **Application**

Nice and easy but can be a little messy right from the start. All you need to do is squeeze the plastic tube to allow the glue to be dispensed from the bottom on to the palm of your hand. I would suggest that you dispense a very small amount and if required apply more. When you have the required amount on your palm simply rub your two palms together to warm up the glue and then apply to your hair. When applying to your hair ensure that you apply evenly and work the glue in with your fingers. After a few seconds the glue will begin to set, at this stage I would suggest that you style your hair and then leave it for the rest of the glue to set. Once set you can expect your hair to look great and the style will hold for a long time. The glue washes and brushes out very easily.

My comments- I would say that this glue does what it says and hold my hair in place for the length of time that I require. Along with the smell and the sleek look you will be very happy with the results of this product.

          Overall 10/10 for application

          **************************************************************

          **Result**

I have always been delighted with the result any time I have used this product. I can say that this glue will hold your hair in style for as long as you require. I have never needed to re-apply more glue to my hair after the first application. Truly amazing glue that does what the tube says "Long lasting ultimate hold"

          **************************************************************

          **Hair Types**

I have very short hair and this glue works wonders on my hair, my wife has used this glue too and it also performs to these high standards on her long hair. I would say that this glue would work on most hair types.

          **************************************************************

          **Final Thoughts**

As you will tell from this review I am very happy with this glue. I really like the smell and that fact that it really does work is also great. I work in the Ambulance service doing 12hr shifts and I can honesty say that this product holds my hair in place for the full shift. Its not just the fact that the gel comes in a lovely tube that I think is cool its all three things, Smell, results, and the long lasting performance of this product is what I really like.

I would definitely recommend this product to anyone that has problems keeping there hair in place. I know that you may pay up to £2.99 for it but I say it's worth every penny.

The only thing that annoys me a little is that your hands a left rather sticky after the application but what do you expect after all you have just applied glue to your hair.

          **************************************************************
