“ Brand: Lee Stafford / Volume / Type: Hair Mousse / What it does: volumizes „
I very rarely use mousse because although I have a lot of hair it is very fine and can get weighed down and look greasy very quickly so I am always wary of applying too many products on it and attempts to use mousse in the past have not been very successful. However, the problem with having lots of fine straight hair is that it has absolutely no body of its own!
Primarily it was the bright pink packaging of this product which caught my eye and on reading about doubling the volume of hair I was persuaded to buy it.
Unlike other mousses, you apply half the required amount on to all of your hair after washing. You then blow dry completely before adding the same amount again but concentrating just on the roots and blow drying again. I did think this was a bit painstaking as with two young children I don't get a lot of time to spend on my hair.
However the results were quite impressive. Just from the initial use and blow dry I could see more volume and after the double blow dry I did have a lot of volume coming from the roots in particular (in fact I probably added an inch to my height which as 5'2 was an added bonus!) Most importantly my hair did not feel sticky and had retained its softness and shine.
The only downside for me and this might be because of my type of hair the volume did not last all day despite also applying hairspray to maintain it. I would not personally use this product on a day to day basis because of the time it takes and how long the effect lasts. However, if you are going out on the town I would definitely recommend using it then to give your hair that extra oomph.
This cost me £4.49 from Boots. Please note that this item is currently included in their 3 for 2 products.
Thanks for reading.

I have very fine hair that gets very flyaway, especially in the winter months when central heating makes it go a bit AWOL. Therefore, I use mousse everytime I blow dry my hair - I apply it immediately before drying, and hope it will add enough body to prevent such problems! Mousse tends to weigh my hair down, but not in a bad way - just enough so that it is manageable and easy to handle.
I have sworn by Superdrug's own brand of mousse for years now - it is the only one that seems to really do the trick and really thicken my hair without making it feel heavy or dried out. However, I recently got a £2 off professional haircare voucher from Boots, and decided to try a more expensive brand of mousse, which I would not have otherwise done.
The mousse costs £4.49 for a 200ml bottle from Boots, which is much more expensive than many other brands. If you purchase this product, it allows you to collect 16 Boots advantage points. The mousse comes in a tall, thin tin that is bright pink in colour - for me, there is no question that this brand (Lee Stafford) have possiby the most attractive packaging of all the haircare brands I have seen! However, if you aren't a fan of bright pink, you might not want to overload your dresser with Lee Stafford products!
You can apply the mousse whenever you desire. I personally apply it when my hair is damp, and then blow dry my hair. However, you can apply it when the hair is dry to tame any frizz and to style your hair. I would not do this personally, since I have very fine hair, and I would be concerned that this might weigh my hair down and make it greasy to some extent. You can also use the mousse to 'scrunch' your hair - allow it to dry naturally (or blow dry if you prefer) until it is around 90% dry. Then, take handfuls of the mousse and starting at the ends of your hair, screw your hair up into little balls, covering it in mousse. When the hair is almost dry, tip your head upside down and finish rough drying it with a hairdryer. This creates a scrunched and 'bed head' look, which, incidentally, is very fashionable at the moment.
With many brands of mousse, if you use it to scrunch your hair, your hair may be left feeling sticky and a bit gunky. This mousse isn't too bad with regards to this - it does initially feel a bit sticky, but as the hair dries and the mousse gets absorbed into the hair, such a feeling is reduced.
Also, the mousse doesn't leave your hair feeling sticky after blow drying, nor does it leave it feeling like straw. It effectively thickens the hair, without making it look like a wig! My hair retains its bounce and its ability to move, yet it looks noticably thicker and more full of life.
Finally, the mousse smells divine! I have so many compliments on the smell of my hair when I'm out with friends! It has a really sweet smell, which is very strong, and hence it might not be to your taste! Therefore, I'd recommend smelling the product before you by, although if you're anything like me you'll love it!
This is, without a doubt, the best mousse that I have ever used (and trust me I've tried them all!) Although expensive, you don't need as much as you do with other brands and hence the bottle lasts much longer. Therefore, it doesn't work out that much more expensive. Even if it did, it would be on my shelf anyway! I'm addicted!
I never stick to one hair mousse- I love to try every brand I can. I hope to find a perfect mousse one day. After using my James Brown London mousse (which I was quite impressed with) I thought I'd try Lee Stafford's Double Blow Mousse.
The mousse comes in a shiny pink can. At the top the is the mousse dispenser. On the front there is a brief description about the mousse and what it does. On the back there is lots of information about usage and ingredients and warnings. There is a lid over the dispenser which I don't have anymore because I accidentally dropped the can and the lid shattered. So I wouldn't say the packaging is very reliable, although it does look very nice.
*Using The Product*
To use this product you're meant to apply to wet hair and blow dry.. then apply to dry hair and give it another blow dry. This is meant to give the double volume. This has quite annoyed me, because ANY mousse would give double volume if you applied it like that. If you apply it normally (applying once when wet) it would just be like any other mousse, so it's not really a 'double volume' mousse naturally. I find that this product is more runny than other mousses I've tried. You need to give the can a very good shake before application to make the product somewhat thick.
After using this product as the instructions say, I was left with more volumised hair, but my hair looked and felt very dry. When I used this product without applying to dry hair as well as wet hair, my hair had no more volume than it does naturally. Either way I use this product, my hair ends up very stiff and difficult to style.
For a professional haircare brand, I am very disappointed with this because I usually love Lee Stafford products. It does smell very nice though with the Lee Stafford signature smell. And for a more upmarket brand I think the price is quite good (£4.49 at Boots). I wouldn't buy this product again because for me it didn't work and I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. However, try it if you wish because different hair types react differently to different products and it might work amazingly for you, but for me, it just didn't do the trick.
When it comes to Lee stafford products I'm a real fan of them as a rule. I own pretty much all of the range now and when I'm going out special like will only use them cos it makes me feel nice and confident and I rely on the products to work for me!
I don't normally use a mousse so when I saw this (and hadn't tried it before) I thought I had to give it a go. I do have thin and fine hair so why not try and put some life in I thought!
Bright pink metallic long cylinder can with pink integrated push button to the top of it and a bright pink matching see-though plastic safety lid that simply pulls on an off the top. On the can there is all white writing and on the front I'm told it is Lee Stafford (little bull dog motif on there) Volumizing Mousse, DDouble Blow, Non Stiky, Non Crispy For A Tower Of Oomfness And Body to Die for 'Get Double The Volume...PTO'. Size is stated on the bottom of the can which is 200ml, Net 6.7 fl.oz. On the back of the can I'm again told what it is, how to use it, ingredients are listed as well as cautions being given, the recycle symbol is shown and contact details for Lee Stafford are given. (Alot of this information is repeated in foreign languages as well).
Normal Directions For Use....
Apply half a handful evenly onto wet hair not forgetting the roots. Then blow dry accordingly.
For The Double Blow....
Once dry apply another half a handful onto the roots of your hair and blow dry again. A little extra time but double the volume. This is only possible with a non sticky, none crispy mousse. Avoid contact with the eyes.
Me Using It....
This is truly brilliant and simply the best mousse I have ever used I kid you not!
I have used this to simply blow dry my hair with to create some much needed volume and then straightened my hair or whatever but I have also used it in the conventional way and then smoothed more through my roots (as directed) and given another quick blow dry to it to maximise the original results.
Basically the white, thick, rich, smooth and expensive feeling mousse is very airy and whipped. I like the thickness on it and the fact that my hair absorbs it almost immediately so i don't have to work it in too hard. I then comb it through and blow dry my hair at an angle or upside down on a lowish heat setting with my hairdryer and as I said once dry I straighten my hair to finish my style off.
My hair is left feeling very smooth, not weighed down, it's glossy and smells wonderfully of oriental flowers (in my view this is one for the ladies) as the smell stays fresh on the hair until you wash it out. My hair certainly looks thicker and fuller but still remains to the touch natural and soft and people have actually commented how shiny my hair is which is a bonus.
As I said I have rubbed some more gently into my roots and teased my hair up and out with my fingers for added volume (like near my crown) and not only does it create more volume that volume stays put until you brush or comb it out, so your always in control of your style and the sky is the limit for what you can achieve lol.
Easy and fuss free to use, smells yummy and fulfills it's promises to the letter. Alot of mousses I have used do create a stickiness and/or crispiness or even worse.... weighs hair down and is too greasy for my hair. This simply doesn't. It feels natural on the hair and hair is gently controlled and of course if you want to your fine to use other styling products along side of this. Personally although I want volumized hair I still want it straight so I do use straightening potions with it (Lee's own once again) and I find even though I whack my Ghds on it I don't drain the life out of my hair I achieved with this mousse.
I love this product and if you have limp, flat, lifeless hair I recommend this to you! Easy to use, easy to wash out (leaving no residue) this is a must buy for me nowadays!
