My experience of Lee Stafford products has always been good, as regular readers of my reviews will already know, so when I went into Boots to pick up my usual Poker Straight shampoo and conditioner and saw that the range was on 3 for 2 again, I decided now was the time to try out the serum too!
I have used Toni and Guy's serum for years now and, although I've tried other brands every now and again thinking that they would work as well, I've always ended up going back, as nothing ever worked as well as I expected. To be honest, I'd given up trying different serums and had decided to stick with Toni & Guy as I knew how good the product was. Then as I stood looking at what to pick up as my third item in Boots, I thought it was worth a try. All the other products I'd tried in the range were so good, so the serum should be too!!
My first thoughts as I picked up the box that included the bottle of serum was how small it was! This was costing me £6.99, whereas the Toni & Guy one looked much better value for the £7.99 I usually paid. How wrong was I? Checking the bottles when I got home I saw that they both included 50ml. Isn't it amazing how clever packaging can be??
The bottle of serum is bright pink, like all of the Lee Stafford products in this range. I love this, but I do think that a couple of the bottles could look better, this one included. The Toni & Guy serum I used to use came in a tall thin container, which I didn't mind leaving out with my hair products, but I think Lee Stafford could have done a bit better with the design of this. Its quite a basic, cheap looking container. The only thing I really like about it is that it's very pink!
On the bottle it states "Weightless, non greasy serum with vitamins E and A. Your hair will glow with health and sparkle like diamonds". Turning it around the back says "Hair will be in the most beautiful condition ever with this smoothing and moisturising potion". And then as usual, you get Lee's "Top Tips". His instructions on how to use the product.
I usually use a serum through wet hair before blow drying and straightening. I find this makes my hair much easier to control and stops the flyaway hair I get after having the hairdryer near it. I also use a serum if Im letting my hair dry naturally as I find it still helps control the frizz. When I first used this serum, I was surprised to find it a lot thinner than my usual Toni & Guy product. Surprisingly this helped the serum to smoothe through my hair and I used much less product. My hair also felt really soft, silky and conditioned.
After styling my hair, I always apply a little more serum to add shine and control to my style. Again, I found that I needed to use much less product than usual to acheive exactly the same result. Did you know that if you apply too much serum, you should simply get out your hairdryer and use on your hair again to make the serum evapourate? Simple!
I didn't find this serum to last any longer than any other serum I've ever used, but this is not a fault of this particular serum, just serums on the whole. If I go a day without washing my hair, when I style the next day I do have to reapply to get the effect I want. You will find this with any serum on the market though.
After years of using Toni & Guys serum and never finding anything that worked as well, I am pleased that I have eventually found a product that works as well, if not better, costs less and lasts longer! It just goes to show that it's sometimes worth trying something new, no matter how much you love your current product! The only reason for the 4 stars is because I don't like the bottle and think they could have done much better, but the actual product I can't fault.
