Lee Stafford Poker Straight Dry Shampoo
by scooch12
Dry shampoo seems to be on the shelves everywhere at the moment, I assume it's one of those things out there to try and help with busy daily lives. I've never been overly keen on the whole dry shampoo concept though - my view is that all it's doing is masking dirty hair, although it's trying to make it look nice, it's still dirty ... underneath and needs washing at some point in the near future.
That said, I've received two bottles of dry shampoo in gift sets. This Lee Stafford product was one, coming in a 150ml bottle. They also sell a travel size version. The bottle I have came in a gift set worth £10, but the bottle costs £5.49 individually. It's in a bright pink bottle, which is a metal tin and not plastic. It has a spray dispenser at the top. I think the only reason it must cost so much is because of it's packaging, because the product itself I found to be a waste of time.
When I wasn't having a full night's sleep (my baby liked 3am feeds!), it seemed the perfect time to try this product out as washing my hair wasn't the first thing on my mind in the morning and I wasn't venturing out a lot as there was obviously a lot going on at home. I normally wash my hair every other day so this was used on the second day to try and make it last into the third day before washing.
To apply, it needs to be sprayed at the roots holding the can around 16cm away (this was always a best guess thing). Then the powder residue left needs to be rubbed away until it disappears. The first thing that got me is that the directions don't tell you how much to spray - I just did a few squirts but who knows if that's correct? All I know is that I've used it around seven or eight times in total but the bottle is nearly empty so it doesn't last very long. Expensive item at that price!
The powder left is like talcum powder - I know a friend told me this was a method used years ago to help with greasy roots and having tried that as well it works exactly the same way (yet talcum powder costs a lot, lot less than this item!). Anyways, quite a lot of powder is left on the hair from this spray and this is where I have a problem. It states to rub it away vigorously but I feel this is going to activate greasy roots even more and make them worse. The whole point is to hide them! I find that when I've done this, my hair looks a bit (and I mean a smidgen) better but only for around an hour and then it starts to look worse, probably from that rubbing away of the powder but also because of the extra time passing from when it should have been washed in it's normal routine. With it only lasting around an hour on my hair, it would only ever be useful if I was nipping out to the shops quickly and didn't want to look a mess but apart from that, it's definitely not a longer term solution. If you don't do the whole rubbing away thing, a big white patch is left there, making me look like I have a lot of troublesome grey roots appearing!
The other thing I noticed was it didn't make my hair feel any cleaner - this is where it's clearly not shampoo. Shampoo should make your hair feel nicer and this just feels as though it's sat on top of dirty hair.
Even the smell gets on my nerves - it smells really chemical like to me, there's no nice scent to it at all!
I rate it 1 star overall, I can't possibly give it any more because there's not anything I like about the product, especially the individual price as I think that's ridiculous. But, to be fair to this particular item, I don't think any dry shampoo would win a high score from me as the other gift set item I tried faired just the same. They don't work some sort of miracle.

Lee Stafford Poker Straight

~Poker Straight ~ Not really!~
***********************
I managed to pick up a bottle of Lee Staffords Poker Straight hair care product in a well known store when I saw it reduced to just £2. I bought a number of hair care products from the Lee Stafford range at the same time to try out as I felt that even if they didn't ... suit my hair they were worth worth try at that price. I feel that the bright and breezy product presentation used for Poker Straight is modern and youthful, with the bright pink used on the product bottle standing out well if placed amongst other similar products. Although I wasn't expecting all that much from Poker Straight, as I have used other Lee Stafford products and found them to give mixed results when used on my hair, I bought the product with an open mind as I feel you never know if something will or won't work for you, unless you try it.
~Using the product~
***************
The idea of Poker Straight is that it can help to reduce frizz and make it easier to get that sharp and sleek poker straight look that hair straighteners give but can't maintain throughout the course of the day. I used to find that very often I would have used my hair straighteners and styled my hair in a way I liked, only to have everything ruined by the british weather! I hoped that using Poker Straight would help to ease this situation, although sadly I found that this product didn't help as much as I hoped it would. I was looking forwards to having sleek and super smooth, glossy looking hair after having used Poker Straight but found that results were not as good as I hoped they would be.
Having now used the product a number of times I feel results are fair but nothing special as I still had issues with my hair remaining frizz free and super straight even after having used the spray, no matter how much or how little Poker Straight I applied to my hair. The main issue I found I had after using Poker Straight was that it didn't keep my hair very smooth or straight once my hair was at the mercy of the elements. I still had issues with frizz and I also found that the spray left my hair feeling coated and a little unclean after having used it, which I didn't like at all. I feel that Poker Straight was unable to deliver what it promised in this case which is a shame. I also found that the product left a very unattractive residue on my hair straighteners and hairbrush after use which was quite hard to remove without damaging the styling plates of my straighteners.
I found that when I used the Poker Straight the spray applicator worked well as it delivered a good amount of product without any wastage. The simple pump action applicator is very easy to work with in my opinion and the product bottle is not overly large and feels easy to handle. This simple product is meant to be able to prevent heat damage as well as contain and control frizz although I found it rather lacking in that aspect. Poker Straight contains green tea which is there to remove/ prevent free radicals after styling, which sounds interesting but really didn't add any thing special to the results I had when using the product in my opinion.
~Product rating~
*************
I really tried to work with this hair care product to get good results but always felt that it gave me lack a lustre finish which is a shame. I didn't like the way that Poker Straight left a nasty coating on my hair, as well as on my hair brush and hair straighteners. I don't feel that this product suits my hair at all and am now using other products which work better for me. I feel Poker Straight it is not something I would buy again. My rating for this product is just 2 stars which I feel reflects its performance. Read the complete review |

Lee Stafford Hair Growth Shampoo
by stickyangel
I've had this Lee Stafford Hair Growth Shampoo in my bathroom for ages now and have actually just bought my second bottle. I originally only bought it because there was a 3 for £10 offer on Lee Stafford products in Boots and I needed a third item, but I'm glad I did as I really like it. The usual price when not on offer is ... £6.99.
It comes in a bright pink bottle as can be seen above. It is semi-transparent so you can always see when you're running out. It has a press top lid where you press one side and the other side pops up to reveal the hole the product comes out of. I do like the look of the packaging and it's definitely easy to spot.
The first thing I noticed when I opened the bottle was the scent. It's quite a strong scent and very chemical but still quite pleasant. It's kind of a deep, musky floral scent, which many of the Lee Stafford range share, but it seems stronger in this shampoo.
The shampoo has quite a thick gel texture which gives a really lovely thick, soft lather that feels gorgeous to massage through my hair and scalp. It feels quite refreshing, particularly on my scalp, and feels as though it's doing a good job of cleaning my hair without stripping it. It rinses out really easily and my hair is left feeling really fresh.
Once my hair is dry it feels soft and much fuller than usual. It doesn't feel particularly smooth and I do get quite a few fly-aways, but this is easily remedied by using a good conditioner. I find my hair looks really full and thick compared to usual, especially with regular use, the results seem to get better and better. My hair looks healthy and shiny and full of life, I couldn't ask for more really.
I can't say I've noticed any improved growth from using this shampoo but that's not what I bought it for so I haven't been looking out for it. The improvement in thickness and body can probably be put down to the same ingredients that claim to stimulate the scalp and improve hair growth.
All in all I think this is a great shampoo which has really improved the look and condition of my hair. Read the complete review |
