Advantages: Deepling cleansing

Disadvantages: Its retro so only available online

As I've said before in my reviews about shampoos I'm always on the look out for another product to use. So much so that my bathroom cabinet is full of shampoo bottles (and bars) from Lush. And so far I haven't really tried that many which I've had to throw away!

Last year my hair went through a spell of being incredibly dry, rough and down right awful. However many products I used I could not get a shine let alone bounce in my hair. I think due to having my hair coloured, styled, blowdryed and straightened so much, my hair just gave up! I was desperately in need of some sort of hair repair kit.

I went into my local Lush store to buy a hair moisturiser (which I did end up buying also) and whilst chatting to a sales assistant (who now knows me by name!) and she suggested that I went online and checked out Antiphilitron as it has great effects on limp hair.

Antiphilitron was actually discontinued in 2003 for the sole reason that it was effectively replaced by tropical fruit infused I Love Juicy Liquid Shampoo, the more simplistic, single-noted Antiphilitron couldn't possibly be more lemony; it contains fresh lemon peel, fresh lemon juice, and lemon oil. That's a lotta lemon, folks, and though at its best it smells like fizzy lemonade, at times, when you occasionally get a batch that smells like Pledge's lemon scented furniture polish, you can't help but wonder if Lush has given you a little too much of one good thing.

However apparently after much protest by the Lush community Antiphilitron was brought back to the shelves (well internet shelves) and took it's place in the retro selection. As it's retro it is only available on line which is a shame but none the less it's back and thank goodness for me and my hair!

The reason why Antiphilitron is packed with all that lemon is to deeply cleanse oily hair and to give normal hair shine. Normal hair will likely achieve mixed results -- this foretelling coming all the more true the thicker and coarser one's hair and the more its tendency towards occasional "puffiness". But Antiphilitron does undeniably bring limp, greasy hair back to life, leaving it squeaky clean and glossy while lemon's astringent, antiseptic properties also resolve bacteria related dandruff problems.

Best combined with Lush's light and lemony Veganese Conditioner, those who have fine locks in desperate need of resuscitation and greasy hair which needs de-greasing will no doubt be best equipped to experience the full impact of Antiphilitron's beauty, the life of their hair practically depending on it. Now I know why this came back to our shelves!

Antiphilitron fortunately is not a really thick shampoo, it's got a quite thin consistencey but not too think so it immediately falls to the bottom of the shower and runs straight into the drain! It lathers up easily and you can instantly feel your hair go silky soft and that's without the conditioner even being applied!!

What Lush says:-

My grandmother was forever going on about how she and Auntie Jessie, Auntie Hettie and Auntie Florrie washed their hair with lemons to make it shiny. As a small child I naturally assumed she was quite barmy. Everyone knew that lemons were food not shampoo! To appreciate how marvellous lemons are for the hair and skin, some of us still need a little re-education. Not only is lemon juice deeply cleansing, it also makes the hairs surface cells lie flat so that they reflect more light result: shiny hair! We make Antiphilitron with fresh organic lemons plus lemon essential oil to get rid of grease, oil, dirt, chlorine and general purpose muck and to give your hair a bright shine too. (Sorry, Grandma! You were right after all.)

Antiphilitron costs £11.28 for 500g which to be fair for something that probably is not ideal to be used daily and just as a detox I think this is well priced. It has quite a long shelf life so you can use it as and when your hair is going a bit poor.

Think of Antiphilitron as a bottle of detox for your locks. It rinses your hair clean of oil, buildup, silicons, and more! What it leaves behind is pure joy! Your hair will feel lighter with a single use, more manageable with less frizz (if you suffer from frizz that is). If you have oily hair you'll be all the more excited as this works amazingly well on oily scalps to create pure hair bliss! The formula is lemon based which makes hair shiny as well!

Summary: All of the above!
