Advantages: Softens, detangles, tames and smells divine

Disadvantages: Washing the coconut out

Lush is an ethical store, selling handmade and vegan beauty products. They also don't use any ingredients tested on animals. You can buy Lush products in 3 ways - online (www.lush.co.uk), in store (a list of stores is available on their website) or via mail order by phoning them on 01202 668545.

CurlyWurlyGirly is a fantastic shampoo created and sold by Lush. Despite having the word "curly" in the title, I assure you that this is not just for curly haired ladies (and gents, let's be inclusive here). I have naturally curly hair, but it is more like a frizz. The curls are not defined at all, and I often have to use GHD straighteners to get rid of the frizz. Lots of heat damage to my long, thick hair. This can't be good.

I picked up CurlyWurlyGirly for £9 for a tub containing 220g. Compared to your normal shampoo, this might seem rather expensive. I was extremely doubtful about this, especially for £9, but being selling-online savvy I thought I would sell it on if it didn't work for me.

When you open this you will probably be first hit with the scent. It smells divine, like coconut ice, and I really wanted to eat it! It is very thick too, pure luxury.

To use, wet your hair, then take a small lump (around the size of a 10p piece) and rub it into your hair. I have extremely long and thick hair, so I tend to use 1 10p sized lump first, then use 2 smaller 5p piece sizes to get more of it throughout my hair. It lathers up very well. Once you have finished, just rinse it out.

But it isn't a case of "just" rinsing it out. The flakes of coconut seem to stick to your hair like glue - this is definitely NOT one to use in the bath, a shower head with power is best to get the coconut out. To help get the coconut out, I run the shower water a bit colder, as somehow this seems to help. For stubborn bits I will use a combination of running my fingers through my hair, using a comb and using a really cheap (think Tesco Value or ASDA Smartprice) conditioner. The coconut seems to wash out better with conditioner than it does with just running water. After this I condition my hair as usual.

Lush recommend that you use "Coolaulin" conditioner with this. I found the conditioner was too thin/runny to use well with CurlyWurlyGirly. But this isn't a review for Coolaulin!

Now this is where I can do one of two things. If I want to achieve curly hair, I simply comb through my hair once and leave it. I don't know how, and I don't know why, but it dries into these amazing curls. They are shiny curls, and there is no frizz at all. I kept getting lovely compliments about my hair after using this, with loads of people asking what I had done to my hair to get the curls so lovely!

The other thing I can do is to dry my hair straight away. It can then be styled and straightened. Once I have just dried it there is no frizz. It also seems to dry a lot straighter than usual. Once I do straighten it then the style stays for ages, and again...no frizz!

Another thing I have to mention is the softness that this creates. My hair feels amazingly soft after every use of this. It also seems to detangle my hair well.

Another amazing thing (I will stop raving at some point, promise!) is that my hair smells AMAZING after using this. Normally my hair doesn't hold any shampoo scents, but for days my hair still smells incredible.

I don't use this every wash though, it just seems be to too much effort. I use it especially for special occasions when I want to wear my hair curly. I am also worried that if I did use it too often it wouldn't work any more! Priced at £8.07 now (thank you VAT cut) I would strongly recommend that you try this if you want to tame your hair and/or create perfect curls.

Summary: CurlyWurlyGirly isn't just for Curly hair
