Advantages: Divine smell, protects hair from frizzing in the damp, gives super shine.

Disadvantages: Expensive, but worth it.

Like many people, I'm often on the hunt for a shampoo that provides something different to my hair and helping to keep it in great condition. I often call into Lush to find such products as I have yet to be disappointed with any of their products. A good few years ago I came across this shampoo: Cynthia Sylvia Stout, a dark brown shampoo that has a deep rich smell of stout, citrus and lovely herbal notes. I was aware that beer can give a lovely shine to hair so figured I'd give this a go.

I bought a 500g bottle in my local Lush store for £11.57, expensive for a shampoo, yes, but the ingredients are completely worth it. It can be bought in 100g, 250g or 500g bottles. This size of bottle is the biggest and lasts well considering I wash my hair daily. A bottle this size usually lasts me a month as I have shorter hair.

The name comes from a poem written in 1974 by Shel Silverstein which begins:
Sarah Cynthia stout
Would not take the garbage out!

The poem continues to relate a cautionary tale about what happened as a resuilt of Sarah Cynthia Stout not taking the garbage out. You can read it on the Lush website.

The shampoo contains stout, organic lemon juice, Cognac oil, balsamic vinegar, fine sea salt and a range of essential oils. The smell is divine, I can't explain how delicious it smells when it's in the bottle and the smell continues long after you've washed and dried your hair.

The shampoo has quite a runny consistency so take care it doesn't run out of your hand as you put the bottle down in the shower! It lathers really well and the scents are released making your shower a wonderful experience.

After shampooing, I find that my hair is quite tangled so using a conditioner is a must for me, that may be just my hair type.

The shampoo is designed to give weight to fluffy or frizzy hair and this is done with the proteins found in the stout. As soon as I start to dry my hair after using this shampoo I can feel that I have more control over it as it behaves itself more than usual and is much less fly-away. The shine is fantastic and doesn't make my hair feel heavy or greasy even though I can tell that the shampoo has given my hair more weight. The shampoo makes your hair smell divine (I keep going on about it I know but it is so nice!) and it keeps its scent throughout the day which is great. I also have trouble with frizz once my straightened hair gets in contact with any kind of dampness; this shampoo really helps keep the frizz at bay so it gets a thumbs up from me.

Don't be put off by the stout factor, you won't end up smelling like a brewery. Give it a try and see what you think!

Summary: Makes my hair smell great, shine nicely and behave!
