Advantages: natural color, no environmental damage

Disadvantages: walking around with your head in cling wrap for hours can be a disadvantage to some! (not me!)

I just discovered LUSH Caca Maroon (Maron), and I think it's GREAT! Here's a tip: Rather than attempting to "smash" it or grate it, cut it with a knife as if you are cutting VERY VERY thin slices, this will cause each "slice" to flake off. I put a papertowel down on the counter top under the henna block. When it had been grated, I picked up the paper towel and dumped it into the bowl.

I put the caca into an aluminum bowl, and turned on the tea-kettle. I also boiled a saucepan full of water. Once the tea-kettle had come to a boil, I mixed a bit in with the caca. (Mix and grind a bit with the back of a spoon until it's the consistency of double whipped cream, or stirred yogurt.)

After mixing it with boiling water, I put the aluminum bowl over the boiling water in the sauce pan and brought it straight to the tub (it kept the henna a bit warm while I was applying it) and did everything leaning over the bath. MUCH LESS CLEAN UP! Have your cling wrap ready ahead of time. I cut off a long piece of cling-wrap and draped it over the toilet (LID DOWN OBVIOUSLY!) Then, once your head it covered, you just have to reach over to your pre-cut cling wrap. No need to walk through the house or bathroom with "caca balls" falling from your head.

I returned to the bathroom and removed the cling wrap while leaning over the tub, and turned on the tub fawcet to rinse. (NOT the shower head!) My hair is rather short, so this may not work as well for those with long hair.

I was sort of nervous of results (In 26 years of life, I had NEVER dyed my hair before!) so I only left it on for an hour. (not much color difference, since my hair is DARK brown). I did it again the next day and left it on for a few hours, and I have reddish-brown highlights. I will return to LUSH soon for the Caca Rouge in order to kick it up a notch and get the BRIGHT red I was too nervous to buy the first time!

Summary: DEFINITELY try LUSH Caca, take the time to plan ahead and you won't have much clean up!

It sounds a bit complicated for me, I have very long hair. I would love to try it though.

Some good tips - it was the hassle of this stuff that put me off using it again! The girl in the shop suggested that I leave it on for AGES - I think I had clingfilm on my head for 7 hours (!) but it was very very vivid :)

Oh - and a warm welcome to the site, too! :)
