Advantages: Easier to use than you'd think, doesn't dye skin, natural

Disadvantages: Only darkens, smells a bit

My hair is brown but I want it black without using any harsh chemicals or products that are cruel to animals. I'd already tried powered henna without any luck so I thought I'd give the Lush henna blocks a go. I tried the Caca Noir (did you know 'caca' is French for poo?!)

I have long hair (it's just above my butt!) so dying it at home can be difficult but I found that applying this mud-like mixture is a lot easier than the liquid hair dyes as you have more control over it but it does make your head feel very heavy as it dries!
It doesn't smell that great and when I first started applying it I was a bit worried that it seemed rather green but don't worry - it doesn't dye your hair green!
Some people are put off by using these as they say it's too difficult or a lot of hard-work but I don't think it's more difficult than conventional hair dyes. It's certainly more fun!

I followed the instructions from the Lush website and I even left it on a bit longer than they suggest because I know that my hair is difficult to dye.
The result was that my hair is a bit darker than it was but it's not really noticeable and it's definitely not black. A big difference I did notice is that the tops of my ears and forehead weren't stained which usually happens with dark coloured hair dyes.

I'd probably use it again to darken my hair now that I know what the actual results are but I wouldn't do it very often.

Summary: Great if you want to enhance your natural brunette-colour but don't expect dramatic results.
