I have always been a bit wary of using henna paste to dye my hair – my teenage experiences with the stuff left me with memories of sitting for hours with something that resembled (and smelt not unlike) a gooey cow pat on my head. Certainly not the thing for the glamour puss about town to slap on her skull.

Hurrah and huzzah, then, for Lush’s range of Hot Hair Henna Colours! I honed straight in on the ‘Caffe’ one – it promised to give shiny dark reddish tones (cover with Clingfilm for a more intense red colour or leave to air dry for a darker brunette). All this and it smells like a trendy coffee shop has set up camp in your hair! I was really pleased with the results and found it far easier to use that old-fashioned henna pastes you had to mix yourself. The only problem now is the fact I can’t stop sniffing my hair. I think I may be a coffee addict by osmosis. I also get a few odd looks in the street: “Mummy, why is that girl smelling her hair?”…It’s okay; I know they’re just jealous of my caffe head.
