Advantages: Smell, Non-Toxic, Covers Grey!

Disadvantages: Hard bars

I've been using henna for years. Only now because my hair has some grey that I've actually needed to dye my hair.

I really don't want to use the hair dye you can buy in supermarkets and drugstores (chemists in UK lingo), or beauty supply places. I have a sensitive scalp and regular dye makes my scalp sting, so you just know that those regular dyes aren't good for you!

I've tried using different brands of henna to cover the grey. Light Mountain says they cover the grey but it's a TWO step process and it just lightens it a bit and makes your grey bits very orangey! So if you use the LM brand it's double the *fun*, ie, you have to henna your hair two times in one go in order to make it work properly if you're using it to cover the grey. (I'm being sarcastic about the word *fun* here....it's not fun by any means). (This is just one example of another company).

Lush Henna is better than any other henna I've used because it got the grey the first time! It's not a weird orangey color that you get with other hennas when they cover grey. Also, the terrible smell you smell with most hennas (referred to in other reviews as "caca" and "baby poo", I think of it as a yucky dirt smell), does not apply here. I put Caca Rouge Mama on my hair and wrapped put a plastic bag on my head and played on the internet for 2 hours till my husband awoke. The smell was okay, even slightly pleasant! Lush puts a lot of better smelling herbs in their products than your regular henna company.

Now the downside of Lush Henna. It comes in hard bars that look like gigantic chocolate bars. Only it's henna. This was the first time I'd used it and I was mixing and mixing with hot water for a long time.

I have an idea though. Next time I use Lush Henna I'm going to put it in a plastic zip bag and bang it the night before till all the bits are smashed up. I hope it wo
rks since I really like this henna.

Ok, the grey. I know some of you might want to know about the grey. Objectively speaking, it's the best henna to cover the grey. Looking in the mirror I see that it covered the grey pretty well! I have really thick curly medium brown hair. The grey bits just look like red streaks! Nice!

Overall I would recommend Lush Henna to anyone who wanted to dye their hair or cover the grey.

Oh the price I paid...because this is the USA was about $20.

I love Lush, but haven't tried their dyes yet.

I have vivid memories of trying to use henna - not the easiest dye to use, I can remember lots of mixing and as you said, that horrible smell. If I ever return to henna days then it sounds like the lush one is the way to go - I do like Lush products!
