Advantages: Handy size, lasts for ages & no packaging
Disadvantages: Can melt if not stored properly
I'm quite a fan of solid shampoo bars; they have a certain place in my bathroom as they can come in handy especially when there is such a selection to choose from at Lush. Shampoo bars are also environmentally friendly as they don't come with any packaging (unless of course you include the paper bag you put it in!). Lush have patented the shampoo bar but I'm sure there are other cosmetics companies all trying to product a similar product! Just imagine how many bottles they save from being produced so help save the environment!
One of my favourite shampoo bars which was unfortunately discontinued back in 2006 was Irresistible Bliss. What first attracted me to it was basically that it was pink! I didn't read anything about this bar until I had made my spontaneous purchase and got it home! This was Lush's jasmine and neroli Bar Shampoo for "normal" hair. That's the kind of hair that doesn't have any specific complaints, rarely having a bad day. I'd say, however, that Irresistible Bliss (especially when used with Veganese Conditioner) is even good for those with frequent but minor complaints; hair that is otherwise "normal" but can occasionally be temperamental and head towards dryness, or shiny hair with a bit of coarseness that can throw a tantrum every so often.
Irresistible Bliss will sort these problems out for you in a pinch, while jasmine (famously used in India as a hair oil) smoothes the hair's follicles and neroli improves its elasticity. (They also make for a wonderfully gentle body soap, allowing you to travel light with only one small bar of Irresistible Bliss to take care of all your shower needs!) Both of these oils are quite expensive, though, and the primary flaw of this Bar Shampoo is that it generally carries little to no fragrance. However I can't say this is a bad point as sometimes Lush products can overwhelm you so you can't actually wear perfume or layer products.
Even when you did manage to find a bar that smells lovely in the shop, you will find this sensual euphoric aroma is quick to dissipate, and you're almost guaranteed zero scent in the hair, leaving you to rely on whatever fragrance your usual conditioner can offer. I think normal hair would do perfectly fine without the need for a conditioner however anyone with slightly dryer hair might want to opt for conditioner just to soften the hair a bit more and make it tangle free. Hair is left soft and shiny, even courser hair seems tamed.
As with all shampoo bars you can either rub the bar directly onto your head and hair or you can lather it up on your hands and then apply to your wet hair. Initially before I tried shampoo bars I did find them quite strange as I did think how on earth do they work! But they are so easy to use! Irresistible lathers up pretty well, well enough for a shampoo bar and it seems to last for ages. Both my bars have lasted me for a few months. They are ideal for travelling or even going to the gym as they don't take up much room. Just remember to keep them in a shampoo bar tin as any exposure to water and they slowly start to melt!
This bar used to be sold at around £3.60 (I think) and as I said before was sadly discontinued in 2006 which was a real shame as I loved this bar. The only fault I can find was the scent or the lack of but I could oversee this issue as the bar really left my hair soft and silky. My hair was easily manageable after use, even when using the straightners!
Summary: Why did Lush ever take this away?!
