Advantages: Lots of usage out of one bar, helps fight greasy hair.
Disadvantages: None.
Bored of the usual high street shampoo's and having a slight obsession with all Lush products, I decided it was time to give Lush's range of shampoo's a go. Lush do solid and liquid shampoo's and if I'm honest I wasn't particularly interested in the solid range, however I did read some positive reviews on the solid shampoo's so I looked more closely into them. I have terribly oily hair with dry ends and knew that Jumping Juniper was for me.
Jumping Juniper is made from lavender and juniper to help control oily hair, and is bright purple in colour. Juniperberry oil has many good properties which can be beneficial to skin, and the antiseptic quality of the oil is good at helping skin problems such as acne and for this reason I can see why this oil will be good for oily hair types. Lavender oil is very balancing and helps the scalp produce less sebum, which makes your roots oily!
So needless to say I was intrigued by this shampoo and decided this one was for me. Lush do a good range of shampoo bars aimed at different types of hair, and they even have a one designed for use in hard water areas, named 'hard,' and a one for use in soft water areas, named 'soft.'
The price of the shampoo bars range from £4.00 to £5.50 and this one in particular costs £4.53.
Using the shampoo bar is very easy. Simply hold it as if it were a bar of soap and gently rub it over the top of your head to help it start to foam. I've found it foams very, very quickly and you really don't need to rub this bar much at all to get a very good lather. You can then put the bar down and work the lather through your hair, which I have found to be thick and just as good as normal liquid shampoo.
I like the smell of the shampoo bar, however I can't often smell it once in the shower, but due to my allergies I have a bad sense of smell. After m,y shower however, a good sniff of my hair proves to me that this DOES smell nicely and it lingers in my hair for a while after showering.
So, does it work? Well my hair is certainly less greasy than usual after using this shampoo bar, however I still have to wash my hair every single day which is a pain because I'm so lazy! I do believe that my hair gets so oily though that no shampoo could probably help me in this area. I do find that using this shampoo bar my hair stays fresher for longer, and it doesn't start to feel heavy as quickly compared to when I use a normal shampoo.
Because I suffer from oily skin which will always breakout, I like to believe that using this shampoo bar with the juniperberry oil and it's properties I mentioned earlier, that it will help decrease the blemishes I get around my hair line. I haven't noticed this yet, however I have only used this bar around 10 times so it may happen yet!
I would say that this shampoo bar is excellent value for money. I've had this bar for around 3 weeks and used it quite frequently yet it's still large and certainly has a long way to go yet before it's finished. The bar lathers up really well, if not better, than your average shampoo and the fact it's made with some great ingredients and smells nice you just can't really lose!
So if you suffer from oily roots I would certainly recommend giving this shampoo bar a try.
When I bought my shampoo bar online from www.lush.co.uk they offered me a free Lush shampoo bar tin if I bought 2 shampoo bars. I did and now I have a lovely silver tin to contain my shampoo bar inbetween washes. I would advise getting one of these if you don't have anywhere handy to leave your shampoo bar to dry, especially in a shower. The tin keeps the water out and keeps the shampoo bar nice and fresh.
Summary: A shampoo bar that makes a nice change from the boring high street liquid types.

- 02/08/09 I'm a fan of "Big" by Lush and have tried "Cynthia Sylvia Stout" but was put off by the solid shampoos. After reading your review, however, I think I'll try one - it sounds far easier to use than I'd assumed it might be. Thanks! |
