I am a little late in catching on to the whole Lush phenomenon, as despite buying bath bombs and bubble bars as gifts for my daughters who are both Lush fans and also enjoying browsing round the wonderfully scented Lush store, I had never actually tried any of their products myself until recently, when I was given this pretty looking shampoo bar as a birthday gift.
I was determined to actually use the product this time, as I must confess I was given a couple of Lush products two or three years back and never actually got round to use them, giving them to my daughter instead.
I don't think this Jumping Juniper shampoo bar would have been something I would have ever got round to buying for myself as I couldn't see how this could possibly be as good as shampoo from a bottle. A bar of shampoo just didn't seem right somehow, but I was however, suitably intrigued.
Lush do solid and liquid shampoos and even though I would have opted for the liquid variety if it was down to me, I could recall hearing some positive reviews on these solid bar shampoos.
Designed to get greasy hair jumping, this Jumping Juniper shampoo bar is made from lavender and rosemary, as well as lemon, lime and juniperberry oils to help control oily hair and is bright purple in colour. Rosemary and lavender infusions are antimicrobal and help soothe and protect the scalp, whilst Juniperberry oil helps control scalp sebum production. The lemon and lime essential oils give shine to the hair.
Juniperberry oil has many good properties which can be beneficial to skin, and the antiseptic quality of the oil is good at helping skin problems. It is extracted from the fresh ripe berries of this shrub by steam distillation. As the Juniperberry oil helps the scalp produce less sebum which is what makes your roots oily, I thought this would be a good product for me to try as I do suffer from oily roots.
Lush state that by taking out the water and turning the shampoo solid, it also removes the need to add preservatives and so these shampoo bars have a great natural quality.
Using the shampoo bar was surprisingly easy and I must admit I wasn't expecting a solid product to be so easy to apply. Simply hold it as if it were a bar of soap and gently rub it over the top of your head. It did begin to form a slight lather as I did this, but I found once I placed the bar back on the side of the bath and began rubbing my hair and massaging the shampoo into my scalp, it lathered up really well. It actually lathered up better than many liquid shampoos I have used. Therefore the application process was much better than I had anticipated as using this shampoo bar didn't require much effort at all and gave a great lather.
It has a wonderful fruity fragrance with only a slight tinge of lavender which I was pleased about as I am not a big fan of lavender.
I wash my hair nearly every day because of my oily roots and whilst using this shampoo bar has not seen me needing to wash my hair less often, it certainly cleans my hair and leaves it soft and shiny and I can smell the product on my hair for much of the day.
It rinses out easily and leaves behind no residue and so my hair feels light, fresh and vibrant.
I did think prior to using this shampoo bar that these products were overpriced but my opinion has changed since using my shampoo bar and I now think it is actually quite good value for money. I've used this bar for a couple of weeks but it is still a decent size and I should imagine it will last another three weeks or so as I haven't used half of it yet.
Jumping Juniper shampoo bar is something I will definitely purchase for myself after I have used it all and my experience of this product has made me want to try other Lush products. I am starting to see what all the fuss is about!
A 55g bar costs £5.25 and it is possible to buy a shampoo bar tin to store it in priced at £2.50.
Summary: Much better than I expected.
