LUSH JUNGLE SOLID CONDITIONING BAR
Following Spiritwood's recent review of this product I was tempted to buy this product and on a recent trip to my local lush store it was added to my ever increasing collection of Lush products.
I am becoming more and more aware of what is actually listed on the ingredients of my beauty products, partially from reading and writing reviews on here and also my help on a beauty forum. I have always questioned why some companies feel it is alright to test their products on animals but I trusted these companies to use products that are safe. I am learning more and more that there are so many awful ingredients shoved into all of our everyday products but the most scary thing is that many of them do not even need to be there.
ABOUT THE PRODUCT ....
Jungle is a solid hair conditioning bar, before Spiritwood's I had never even heard of a solid conditioner bar, I will admit I had seen them in Lush but I had though they were bars of soap! I will note that the photo above must be out of date because the soap now comes in small circular shape rather than a bar that needs cutting to size, the soap is pale green in colour and has a cute pattern on the top that I think is meant to be jungle leaves. The soap is around 4cm in diameter.
So why a solid conditioner? I am not sure about this one! I can see the benefits of less packing but not much else other than that.
As with all Lush products it comes with a weird and wonderful name, this one made me giggle! The Lush website says "it's a jungle out there! Help tame wild, bushy hair! That could be taken so many ways!
The bar contains coco butter to give a deep moisturising condition to the hair whilst adding a nice shine, and the fruits have been designed to add fruit oils to the bar to condition without being too heavy on the hair.
The bar smells of light fruity smells although I can not pinpoint a single strong scent but it certainly does smell nice and fruity.
TO USE ....
The bars can be used in several different ways, the lady in Lush showed me two but I have since found a rather novel third method on youtube!
The first method is to simply soak the bar under or in the water for a few seconds and rub between your hands as you would a normal bar of soap, a nice lather of the product will transfer to your hands and you can then rub it through your hair and repeat as desired.
The second method is to again soak the bar for a few seconds under the water then holding the bar gently run the bar down the length of your hair, as if runs down a thin coating of the product is left on your hair.
The third method on you tube, which I feel is kind of pointless but I will still share it. Crumble some of your bar of Jungle into a bowl, add a small amount of boiled water and mix until the bar becomes a paste then you can use as usual.
DOES IT WORK? ....
I have found that although it is quite light for a conditioner Jungle really does leave my hair smelling really nice and leaves no residue on my hair at all.
The bar seems to be lasting a very long time, I have been using it every other day for just over a month and I am no where near finished it so it is very good value for money.
These soaps come without any packing, however Lush do sell small silver coloured storage tins that are priced £2.50 and can be used to safely store your conditioner away and be re used when you get your next conditioner. I have actually found these really handy for travel, no worrying that there are going to be any leaks in my bag so good.
These bars are such good value for money £3.25 for a 55g bar of soap, as I say mine is at current rate going to last me at least 4 months and my hair is very long so takes a fair amount of it.
I really do like this product not just for it's novelty but since using this and Cynthia stout shampoo I have noticed a huge difference in the quality of my hair. I have awful fluffy hair that will not curl and will not straighten and insists on being greasy by the roots within hours or washing but dry on the ends. Talk about opposites lol. I have found that my hair is still fresh the second day with this product and in reality I could be leaving it longer if necessary.
I would give this product 4 out of 5 stars, it looses a star because I do find that it takes a fair bit of rubbing in my hands to get a good lather so can not give it 5 but it's really so minor it would be 4.5 if I could.
Summary: Really good product, lots of advantages
