Advantages: Fantastic Effect on Out of Control Hair

Disadvantages: Very peculiar Smell

King of the Mods is a very citrusy soft-hold hair gel, containing grapefruit, lime, camelia and almond oils, amongst other ingredients. It is one of only three hair gels available from LUSH, and comes in 100g (recycled and recyclable) pots.

I don't really like Hair Gel, as I tend to like my hair to move with me, and I also don't like the stickiness most hair-gel leaves on your hair, hands, and anything else it touches. King of the Mods, however, is the exception - it is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.

The hold is just perfect - my hair is very thick and dry and tends to get out of control very easily, but this held it perfectly - more like a leave-in-conditioner than a gel actually - it left my hair looking sleek and shiny and my almost-curls looking defined, but there was no stickiness, no hardness, and no awful wet-look...

The only downside is the smell - I found the grapefruit smell very off-putting, as it was just too harsh and acidic for me - I like gentler, sweeter fruit smells. The smell was also very strong, and stayed with you all day. Perhaps this was in part because the anticipated consumer was potenitally from either sex - I found that the smell was a little bit too masculine for me, which might be a bonus for some other buyers. Still, I'm willing to put up with the smell in return for the fanatastic effect on my hair...

Another downside is that I found the pot did not last very long, even on my very short hair - the mixture is runny and you need to use quite a lot to get even coverage. At the current selling price of £6.85 on the LUSH website, this makes it quite expensive for daily use, especially as a hair moisturiser such as 'Marilyn' gives you nearly the same effect, a nier smell, and lasts longer...

On the whole, I was very happy with this product, as even with the downsides it is a much better buy than a lot of the gels and waxes available in the highstreet drug stores, and with the the added bonus of being good for the environment and good for your hair.

Summary: Worth it
