Advantages: good for hair loss, nice smell if you like it
Disadvantages: strips hair of color,drying
So the concept of solid shampoo's was very new to me and I have to say its one of lush's more unusual products..which of course meant i had to try one!! hehe
I have been loosing hair like crazy over the last few months, and so the sweet little shop assistant helped me pick out new shampoo bar and explained how you use it. I have to say I left the shop still feeling a little confused and ended up using waaay too much the first time I tried it.
The shampoo bar is a red colour..well red and white bits to be more precise and had two cinnamon sticks in the middle. It smells heavily of cinnamon and cloves so those who dont like that spicey smell - stay clear of this shampoo. I on the other hand really love it and it reminds me of home :-) The key ingredients are sodium laureth sulphate, nettle and peppermint infusion, rosemary, bay oil, cinnamon leaf oil and clove oil and a few naturally occuring preservatives..
The shampoo bar concept is i believe to reduce the amount of packaging used (did you know 270million dollars worth of gas and oil needed for consumer packaging in the states alone.. also largest consumer of packaging in the world!!)... so i was more than happy to try it out. It is suitable for vegans but read all ingredients carefully if you have any allergies and conditions: ie pregnant women should avoid certain essential oils.
anywho anywho... back to NEW. I bought a shampoo tin to go with it, which however should be left open and the shampoo bar allowed to dry..turning it around every few hours to make sure it dries all over. This makes it retain form and last for upto 80 washes and equivalent to about 3 bottles of shampoo as lush claims...
To use this shampoo you will have to really drench the hair.. you can either foam it up in your hands and apply the pink lather onto your hair or rub the bar onto the hair directly. I did the latter and was really suprised at how much lather it produced - in fact i used too much the first time thinking this whole concept of solid shampoo was not gona work... as you lather your hair it gives off a rich aroma of cinnamon and clove and rosemary... the ingredients are created espesically to stimulate the hair follices to promote regrowhth and prevent hair fall.
I have to admit this shampoo worked pretty well in that respect, while i loose the most hair while shampooing my hair i only lost a few strands while shampooeing with this bar. However the shampoo did leave my hair with quite a few tangles as I was rinsing it out and I had to use the "retread" conditoner sampled i recieved. It supposed to be one of the heaviest conditioners produced by lush and it certainly is the business... it smoothed my hair right down.
after washing i blow dried my hair and was suprised at how much volume it added to my hair and this without any mousse too! I dont know if it just be but i noticed my hair getting a little curly even??? With continued use I was dissapointed to note that it stripped the recent dye job i got into my hair and the tangles which was suprising as my scalp is super sensitive yet this didnt seem to hurt it at all.
I really like the spicy smell of this shampoo and the fact it helped my hair stop falling out in chunks: it is also good for getting out all the gunk if you use alot of product or after a hot oil treatment/mask. I still find it alittle stripping on the actual hair itself and will only use once or twice week.
I would really like to try some other shampoo bars though, i love the concept and was pleasantly suprised at how well they foam up and cleanse the scalp.
Summary: when your hair starts falling out, its a desperate time..try this and see if it works for u.
