Advantages: Smells lovely, great concept, works well, lasts a long time
Disadvantages: None I love it
Whenever I come back from being abroad I find that my hair can often be a nightmare. I recently spent a weekend in Spain and although I use my usual shampoo and conditioner my hair felt as dry as straw and was a nightmare to manage and style. So I looked online specifically stating the issue with my hair using Google and it presented me with a whole host of different products to use, the one which stood out was one from Lush.
The problem with my hair is that whilst it is lovely and blonde it is quite thick and I have a lot of hair on my head which often means I do need to use extra conditioning treatments once every few weeks to maintain my locks. Lush Seanik is a Softening sea salt shampoo which is said to leave your hair incredibly soft and nourished and it comes as a solid shampoo bar which I have used before, so I am quite familiar with the concept of using solid shampoo and I have to say I have been impressed with my previous experiences. This product retails at £4.50 for a 55g spherical bar.
So Lush Seanik is a bright blue coloured solidified shampoo bar with bits of moss mixed in and looks wise it could be mistaken for a bar of soap, an intention from Lush I think and this particular shampoo is made with jasmine, mimosa and orange blossom along with softening Irish moss seaweed, Japanese nori seaweed and sea salt. All of these ingredients I was assured would leave my hair in a wonderful nourished condition. Each of these ingredients was chosen for a specific reason. Jasmine absolute is a good massaging oil which works well with the Lemon Oil to promote a sense of uplifting whilst on the skin it helps tone the skin and increase elasticity. Mimosa Absolute which is used for the care it takes dry, oily or sensitive skin because it is soothing and again it also promotes relaxation and calming. Finally we have Irish Sea Moss and Japanese nori seaweed both of which are full of natural minerals to provide natural, skin-nourishing benefits which hydrate and replace moisture not only that but they both work to smooth the cuticle cells of the hair shaft to give it that overall well maintained soft touch and feel. Both the Irish Moss and Nori Seaweed are used in an array of hair products from shampoos and conditioners to hair treatments and gels. The final ingredient to mention is fine sea salt which is softening on the skin and scalp and within Lush Seanik it works with the Irish Moss and the Seaweed to add a little volume to the hair and add shine as well as working as an exfoliant to rid the scalp of any impurities and dryness to leave your hair clean.
To use your Shampoo Bar is really easy and all you have to do is mimic the actions of using a bar of soap by firstly wetting it with warm water whilst in the bath or shower and then rub it between your hands to form a lather and then as you would with your shampoo put it in your hair and gently rub your scalp ensuring the lather covers every inch of your hair. If you have never used solid shampoo before then it is a bit weird at first but it does work quite well and I actually prefer it to using bottled shampoo. Once you have covered your hair with the lather the smell does become slightly evident although it isn't too over-powering, there is a definite citrus smell which is the Lemon Oil and Orange blossom and you can also feel the fine sea salt particles on your scalp if you massage your scalp really well. When rinsing the lather from your hair it is really easy to do.
In my opinion the Shampoo Bar does produce a lot of lather and it left my hair not only smelling wonderful and citrusy but my hair was also a lot softer than I expected it to be and also very shiny and healthy looking when dry, as I said having spent some time abroad my hair becomes a nightmare and it is really dry, so anything which can replenish and remoisturise is an added bonus for me. I sometimes suffer from a dry scalp but when using this product my scalp is also moisturised and less irritating and itchy.
Overall this product has proved to be very cost worthy because I bought it well over a month ago now and I use it once a week on average because I don't feel the need to use it as a replacement for my current shampoo and conditioner, I prefer to keep it as a treatment when my hair is in need of it. Also living and working in London your hair is never going to be clean for long with all the pollutants so I tend to wash it every other day, and I would estimate that it has the life expectancy of three months at least, obviously if it was used more frequently this would be less and for £4.50 I am not going to complain because it is cheaper than the hair treatments I would usually buy to treat my hair, only this isn't designed to be a treatment but a shampoo and it works just as well if not better.
Do I recommend this product? Well if your hair is like mine then absolutely without a doubt, but if you hair isn't like mine and you would still like to try a similar product then log onto the Lush website and have a look around, there are a lot of options to choose from.
