Advantages: Small, handy, lightweight, can get it free!

Disadvantages: Shampoo bar can become like mush as water stays in it

I first discovered this little tin whilst I was at university and preparing for a trip to Africa. I went into Lush because I had heard they had shampoo bars, which would save valuable space compared to carrying bottles of shampoo and conditioner in my rucksack. The assistant in the store told me if I bought 2 shampoo bars I could get the travel tin free - I wasn't convinced I really needed it, but figured it made sense to store the shampoo bar in the specially designed tin, rather than provide my own solution to what to do with a wet bar (probably a small plastic bag which would end up leaking!)

Size wise, it's perfect for travelling. It's water proof and seals so nothing leaks out. The bar itself lasted quite a while, so the tin was really handy. Lush also do conditioner bars which can fit in the tin, and chunks of soap too.

On the down side, I found that after using the bar and putting back into the tin, often I would end up with liquid mush inside the tin. This meant the bottom of the bar seemed to stay continually soggy.Eventually this led to the bar moulding into the shape of the tin and then deciding to dry and stick itself firmly inside. Rather than taking the bar out to use, I found myself having to dig bits of it out of the tin for quite a while! This did make the bar last extra long, however I would recommend leaving it to dry on the side of the shower before putting it back into the tin. (Making it a bit less practical for travelling, especially staying in hostels!)

However, years later, the tin itself is still in working order and has survived travelling to many different countrys! It's still possible to get it free when you buy 2 shampoo bars (i would recommend this!) or it is currently £2.49 on its own.

Summary: Worth it if you're going travelling
