Advantages: Lovely understated design, smooth screw top, free when you buy two shampoo bars
Disadvantages: Brand new shampoo bars are a tight fit
My daughter gave me a couple of shampoo bars from Lush recently and with them a shiny new Shampoo Bar Tin, which is basically a tin designed for you to keep your shampoo bars in so as to keep them in the best conditioner possible and to stop them from turning into a slushy mess on the side of your bath.
The brushed steel tin has a screw top which is very smooth to open and close, the size of the Shampoo Bar Tin makes it easy to grip even when your hands are wet and soapy and I've never had a problem with the lid getting stuck or becoming too stiff to take off.
Both the shampoo bars I was given were new and the first few times I used one of them in the tin I would struggle a little to prise the shampoo bar out of the tin, this I found rather annoying as I have quite long nails and I had to kind of dig them into the sides of the shampoo bar to squeeze it out - this wasn't a problem really but it did spoil the appearance Ultimate Shine shampoo bar somewhat.
Also I quickly realised that you need to allow your shampoo bar to dry out a little before replacing it in the tin, if it's still wet then you'll end up with slime in the bottom of the tin which will crust over and leave you with lots of scummy looking peaks around the edges and bottom of your tin. I had this happen the first couple of times I used the tin and ended up having to wash the tin itself in hot soapy water to get rid of the gunk, I hate mess so it didn't take me long to learn that the shampoo bar needs to dry for a good 5 - 10 minutes before being replaced.
It is a brilliant, yet very simple, solution to a problem that most of you don't even know exists! I mean, it's all well and good buying your eco-friendly bottleless shampoo but once you've got them home and taken them out of their paper bag wrapping then what do you do with them? Honestly this is not something I've ever thought about before as this is the first time I've used a shampoo bar but really you do need a tin to keep your bar fresh and perfect ready to use next time.
The Shampoo Bar Tin costs £2.69, although if you buy two shampoo bars you can claim a free tin which is a bargain in my opinion. I have just read on the Lush site that these can also be used for transporting blocks of soap which is a very good idea and I feel rather slow that I hadn't already thought of that myself, and with the holiday season approaching now is probably the perfect time to invest in a Shampoo Bar Tin.
Summary: An excellent invention from Lush.
