Advantages: Compact, lovely scents, nice ingredients, packaging free

Disadvantages: I found them quite harsh. Not the cheapest.

For reference, I have have waist length, normal thickness, dry, wavy/curly hair. I have never dyed, permed or straightened my hair.

Lush Shampoo bars are a marvellous idea. Compact little bars of shampoo which require no packaging (although you can buy a tin to keep them in). They take up no room at all in the bathroom and are ideal for travel.

Unfortunately, these bars just don't work for me. I love most Lush products: the scents, the effects, the quality of the ingredients, the witty blurb describing the products. When it comes to the bars, though, I seem to have been luckless. I have tried three in total: Seanik - a gorgeously scented softening bar, Ultimate Shine - pretty obvious, and Jumping Juniper - again, beautifully scented, this time for oily hair.

I see that most other users have given the bars glowing reviews, and have puzzled over why they might not work for me. It might be that they don't respond well with the soft water in my area. Maybe they're not the best option for dry hair. Either way, they've completely stripped my hair every time, leaving it dry, dull, and tangled.

Price-wise. Hmmmm. Not sure about this one. The cheapest is about 4.50, the dearest is about £5.30. I've tried lots of shampoos, from pricey beauty counter jobs to cheapo supermarker own. I don't think price is an indication of quality in this area. There's cheaper than this out there that can do a better job, I think. They might not be as quirky or pretty - but it's down to what you're looking for, I suppose.

I really wanted them to work for me, but they just didn't. Maybe you'll be luckier!

Summary: Probably one you would have to try for yourself, I think.

Ultimate shine is fab for my long hair, but that's with Sheffield's hard water. It's terrible in soft water areas, so I think you're right about that.
