Shampoo with no packaging! (Lush Shampoo Bars)

I started using Lush shampoo bars after feeling guilty about seeing how many shampoo bottles I was throwing away. The benefit of shampoo bars is that there is absolutely no packaging, the bar is like a soap and each one lasts for ages. For those unfamiliar with Lush, they try to use natural and environmentally friendly ingredients, which was another motivation for using them. The main one I used was Squeaky Green, and I tried a couple of others as well.

Shampoo bars do clean your hair very well, but I found I also needed a separate conditioner. I have quick fine hair, and a lot of it so I really need something to help detangle. The smell of the bars I found very pleasant, although I know Lush smells are not to everyone's taste. The only problem with the Squeaky Green was that it left a lot of 'bits' in the bottom of the bath and shower which my husband was not all the happy about.

The shampoo bars are quick to use, I just rubbed them over my hair a couple of times, then worked the shampoo in. They don't foam up like regular shampoos, as they don't contain the same harsh foaming agents.

After a couple of months use, my hair looked ok, a bit lifeless maybe. But the main problem was my skin. It was greasy and spotty, especially around my hairline. I got a lot of spots on my forehead. I began to suspect the problem was the shampoo. I switched back to my regular shampoo, and the problem disappeared. Whatever nasty stuff is in regular shampoo is obviously doing wonders for my skin!

These bars are great if you are a committed eco-bather, or if you are travelling and want to travel light (you can buy a tin to keep the bars in). But unfortunately, they just didn't work out for me.

Summary: Worth a try, maybe good for occasional use or travelling.
