Advantages: Gets rid of itchiness and dandruff, makes hair shiny

Disadvantages: Smells of barbeques

I have a bit of a problem scalp, sometimes dry, sometimes itchy and unless I use an anti-dandruff shampoo, it gets flaky.

I had been using a well known anti-dandruff shampoo for about 2 years, which after a year and a half, failed to work as well as it did when I first used it. Now what was I going to do? I didn't want to keep switching from one anti-dandruff shampoo to the next in case it aggravated my scalp.

Then I remembered Lush. They are a body and haircare company who make their products using natural ingredients and they don't test on animals.

I went into my local shop and had a browse, hoping they might have something to treat dandruff and itchy scalps and I came across Soak & Float. It's not your usual shampoo. It doesn't come in a bottle and it doesn't contain all those chemicals you would normally find.

This shampoo is a round, solid, flat bar. This may seem quite strange to think of a shampoo like this, but I actually really fell in love with idea. Very little packaging (it comes in a clear Lush bag), about 30 pence more than a bottle of shampoo which would last me about 4 weeks and the shampoo bar lasts for 80 washes!! That's twice as long as a bottle of shampoo which costs about 30 pence less.

The Soak & Float bar weighs 55g and costs £3.75. It contains such ingredients as Cade Oil, Lavendar Oil, Marigold Petals, Rose Petals to name but a few.

The first thing that you will probably notice is how it looks. It doesn't look particularly great, a sort of yellow-ish brown with the dried marigold and rose petals sticking out.

The second thing you will most definitely notice is the smell. Some people might like it and others will downright hate it. However, I didn't let it bother me as the bar itself works wonders. The smell could be described as a bonfire or a barbeque. However when using a conditioner over this it should cover up the majority of the smell.

To use the shampoo bar, wet your hands later the bar between your palms. You get a lot of lather out of rubbing the bar twice between your hands. When you have enough lather, massage this into you scalp and hair for a couple of minutes to really let it do it's work. Then rinse out.

After rinsing this out, my hair felt squeaky clean and my scalp felt really clear, but I thought 'I'll wait and see what happens after drying.'

After drying, the result was incredible. No flakes, no itching and no dryness - and this was after just one wash! My hair was so much more shinier than it usually is and combed through like a dream.

I bought my Soak & Float bar about 6 weeks ago and not even half is used up! If you are looking for a good anti-dandruff shampoo that is value for money, this is the one you should try.

Even 6 weeks on, it works just as well and I'm very happy with how it looks after my scalp. One thing to note is that Lush states their shampoo bars expire after one year, so if you plan on stocking up, it might be an idea to buy just one or two at a time.

Summary: Stinky but does the job
