Advantages: Does really get rid of flakes

Disadvantages: Smells atrocious!

Soak and Float is Lush's answer to anti-dandruff shampoos such as Head and Shoulders. I was particularly keen to try it, as I have a very problematic scalp - it is ridiculously sensitive, and I actually get a chemical burn style reaction from Head and Shoulders.

For those who are unfamiliar with Lush's solid shampoos, the premise is really quite simple: You rub the bar of shampoo between your hands, or straight onto your head, in a manner similar to soap. Takes a little getting used to, but it really does work and lather up well. The solid shampoos also lack ridiculously long - the website claims they last for up to 70 washes, and I'd say this was about right. They are also great for travel, as you can buy small tins for them, and they don't take up much room at all.

Soak and Float scores its first down point when you lather it up - it smells like tar. This smell is quite unpleasant, and sadly Lush's products always leave a lingering smell. My partner certainly noticed the smell on my hair, and that was after I used a strongly scented conditioner to try and cover it!

As for the anti-dandruff qualities, Soak and Float does really do the job. I certainly noticed I had much less dandruff, and my scalp was a little calmer, although I wouldn't say that it removed the problem completely. It also leaves your hair feeling very clean, although this feels almost to the point of being slightly stripped of oils. After using it my hair felt extra squeaky clean, so I'd suggest using conditioner with it, even if you don't normally use conditioner.

Soak and Float is completely vegetarian (in line with all of Lush's products) and it is also vegan. For those with allergies, the ingredients are as follows:

Sodium Coco-Sulfate, Water (Aqua), Cade Oil (Juniperus oxycedrus), Lavender Oil (Lavandula augustifolia), Marigold Petals (Calendula officinalis), Rose Petals (Rosa centifolia), *Limonene, *Linalool, Perfume, Colour 61585
* Occurs naturally in Essential Oils

Summary: Good anti-dandruff shampoo if you don't mind the smell.

I haven't tried this one but I like their Ultimate Shine bar, Susan

This is a very helpful review - I've used a Lush shampoo bar before but was a bit indifferent about it. I might give them another try...but will get one that doesn't smell of tar!
