Advantages: Smells nice, lasts agos and helps flaky scalps.
Disadvantages: £4.50 for 55g is a bit steep but it does last ages
A month or so ago I bought a collection of Lush products from Ebay and in the collection was Squeaky Green solid shampoo bar. Since I first used the bar I have not used a liquid shampoo once because the bar is just so great!
Squeaky Green is a round bar of solid shampoo; it is around the circumference of a jam jar and is about ¾ of an inch thick. The bar is 55g and costs £4.50 from Lush stores or Lush online. While £4.50 is quite expensive for a shampoo I think this is good value for money because it last a long time and bubbles up so well that you need only use a tiny bit each time.
The bar is strange looking up close because it looks like loads of green and white hundreds and thousands have all been packed together. Throughout the bar are little bits of nettles and rosemary. I was worried that when the bar got wet it would fall apart because it really does look like lots of tiny pieces have been pressed into a circular mould, however I have had no trouble with it at all.
Another concern I had was that this shampoo bar would be difficult to use, I have only ever used liquid shampoo so this was a new experience for me. I used the shower to make all my hair wet, then I took the bar and began rubbing it all over my head. I was amazed at how quickly this bubbled and lathered up.
I needed to apply only a really small amount and after I had used the bar you could not really tell it had been used, I have used mine 5 or 6 times now and it still looks new. This shampoo produces masses of bubbles and is great for a really good hair wash! I was concerned that once the bar got wet it would go all soggy, but I put it on the side of the bath which I had dried off with a towel and when I came in the next morning it was as solid as it had been when I got it.
One evening our boiler decided to pack in and I had been swimming so really needed to wash my hair, I contemplated using my liquid shampoo as I thought it would bubble up best in cold water but then I realised that the cold water would most likely have trouble rinsing all the bubbles out, so I took my Squeaky Green and rubbed a little into my cold wet hair. I could not believe how well it worked with the cold water and it washed out well too, leaving my hair just as lovely as if I had used warm water.
The fragrance of Squeaky Green is not too strong, it is quite subtle and fresh, it smells like a grassy meadow, slightly floral but also a bit like freshly cut grass, it is very refreshing. After using this shampoo bar my hair is very soft and shiny, I have had no need to use a conditioner when I have used squeaky Green because my hair is already nice and soft, though sometimes I do couple it with the Jungle solid conditioner as they compliment each other perfectly.
Before I started using Squeaky Green my scalp was a little dry and flaky however now whilst it is still a bit flaky, it has vastly improved and I am very impressed with how it is soothing my scalp back to normality.
Lush describe this as an aromatherapy shampoo and I can see why, the pleasant aroma it emits is very calming yet refreshing, and I feel quite invigorated yet relaxed after washing my hair with this.
The ingredients in squeaky Green as given on the Lush website are -
Sodium Coco-Sulfate
Perfume
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Nettle (Urtica dioica)
Water (Aqua)
Tea Tree Powder (Melaleuca alternifolia)
Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
Rose Absolute (Rosa damascena)
Chamomile Blue Oil (Chamomilla recutita)
Vanilla Absolute (Vanilla planifolia)
Coumarin
Geraniol
Benzyl Benzoate
Limonene
Linalool
Hydroxycitronellal
Chlorophyllin (CI 75810)
I am really glad that this was included in the collection I bought because otherwise I do not think I would have tried it, now I have I doubt I will ever buy a bottle of liquid shampoo again - I am however looking forward to trying out the other solid shampoos from Lush.
Summary: Once you tr this you will never want to use a liquid shampoo again !

- 03/09/08 I used to love the godiva solid shampoo from lush, as it was pretty much how you've described this, though obviously slightly different. |
