Lush Squeeky Green Shampoo Bar
Advantages: cleans hair, dandruff free
If I'm honest, I have never really liked the idea of shampoo bars as I didn't think they would really work. Although I was pleasantly surprised by this one which was recommended to me by someone working at Lush.
A shampoo bar is basically as it sounds - a bar of shampoo. A shampoo bar lasts longer than a bottle and it really works to help your hair without all the chemicals. It is basically a packaging free, environmentally friendly, easier option to your average shampoo bottle. I really love the way shampoo bars are so natural and full of hair goodness! Suitable for vegans and helpful to people who suffer with dandruff. I have to admit, when I get stressed for some reason I end up with dandruff so this is perfect for me during these times - good thing it lasts so long!
Shampoo bars often hold the same shape (which is why Lush have made a tin for you to hold your bar in). They are all round and remind me of macaroons. The texture of them is quite rough but then who really cares about that when its so good for you.
Being called squeaky green, it is obviously green. The bar is particularly smooth which means no irritating bits will end up in your hair. When it comes to natural products, this bar contains peppermint, rosemary, chamomile, rose, vanilla and many other ingredients.
The fragrance is herbal and slightly minty. This is obviously down to the ingredients but it makes for a very refreshing showering experience. I love using this in the mornings as it helps to wake me up a little more. My boyfriend also uses it which is surprising - he hates any products I use as he finds them too feminine for him! This is obviously good for men as well as women.
Shampoo bars are similar to soap in the way you use them. All you need to do is lather it up in your palms and massage into your hair. I find the bar lathers up really well which I didn't expect due to the form it comes in. A small bit goes a long way! I would say that for longer hair you do need to rub the bar for longer or you won't produce enough to lather up your whole head which can leave greasy patches - I discovered this through trial and error!
I would usually condition my hair after using a shampoo through habit, and this bar should definitely be used with a conditioner. Despite making your hair feel really clean and full of goodness, it also makes hair quite tangled.
When it comes to results, I find that my dandruff is almost non-existent after one use. I get really paranoid about it so I'm glad that it almost completely removes all signs. My hair was completely clean and it took longer to get greasy than usual. My normal every other day hair wash turned into an every three day wash. This was really useful as I didn't need to get up earlier for college to wash my hair - bonus points for more sleep!
The only downside I found, which I know a few others have also.. is that it makes hair quite frizzy. I normally don't get frizzy hair, but after using this I seem to have some. It can be easily styled out, but it did get a little irritating and I felt a bit like a lion after drying.
At £4.95 per bar you can't really go wrong. If you want natural products you always need to splash out a little and I find that this price is really reasonable. I have had it for a month and a half now with another at least 2-3 months use in it. When I buy my normal £1-2 shampoo bottles they only last me about a month so in the long run I am saving quite a bit of money.
I would recommend this to people who have dandruff, but unless this is the case then there is nothing very special about it. I might of gotten really clean hair, but I am (like most women) not a big fan of frizz! For this reason I am only rating it 3 stars out of 5. 0
Summary: good for dandruff
