Advantages: It does slightly condition hair and is Vegan
Disadvantages: Smells revolting and is over priced for how little it does
When browsing round my local Lush shop with nothing in mind to buy and picking up some shampoo to try I opted to buy a conditioner. The one thing I never knew until this particular visit was that Lush don't sell matching shampoos and conditioners and it's down to yourself to pick a regime that works which is made a lot easier by the fabulous and knowledgeable staff. So after a little chat about my hair and it's needs I picked up a bottle of this to try!
Difficult and rebellious much like its owner! I have dyed black shoulder length hair. Straight, flat hair from root that goes greasy and lank really quickly and then from mid length to the ends lots and lots of frizz. I have naturally wavy hair with a few curls and with the right hair products I can make it go curly if I wish but I normally straighten it but even then after a few hours a straight smooth look is achieved waves will appear along with a huge cows lick! (I did tell my hairdresser not to give me a fringe but she did it anyway!) When my hair looks good (after a lot of work) it really does look lovely but when I'm having a bad hair day wow it's an absolute shocker!
I wash my hair every day due to being a smoker (who wants smelly hair after all?) and the fact that I use a fair few styling products and if I don't wash hair everyday I get greasy roots and dry ends worse than ever. So I need a conditioner that's sort of multi functional and is clever at adjusting to the needs of my combination hair. The wrong conditioner can really do horrible things to my locks!
So I purchased this because it's suitable for all hair types and it's designed with fine hair in mind (though you don't have to have fine hair) and promises great shine. The Lush shop assistant also said it is a very light formula suitable for every day use if desired and doesn't weigh hair down as it isn't really thick.
What Lush Has To Say About This Product....
Lavender and lemon all round conditioner for all hair types. Our vegan customers have quite enough to put up with without having rough, dull, tangled hair. The majority of Lush products are vegan, but making a vegan conditioner (without lanolin from sheered sheep`s wool) took us a few years because it was so difficult. Absolutely refusing to be beaten, Helen Ambrosen finally found a formula that reached her high standards, using agar seaweed gel as a hair softener with lavender and lemons for shine. It`s an effective conditioner for you to use. Vegans and everyone with fine hair should choose this one and stick with it.
Clear plastic, recyclable bottle with black flip top lid and a black label round it's middle that tells me in bold white writing that it is indeed Lush and that it's indeed Veganese Hair Conditioner and tells me 'Lemon for shine and seaweed for softness and herbal infusions for your scalp. An all round vegan conditioner for all hair types (not just vegans)'. I'm also told the size and there's a small label on it telling me who it's made by.
Well you can use this after using any shampoo and not just Lush obviously. Just wash your hair and give hair a little squeeze to remove excess moisture and rub some on to damp hair. Now I have no idea how long your meant to leave it on for but I've left it on a couple of minutes in the shower and I've stuck some on my head while I have a bath. Me, I think the longer you can leave it on the better, it certainly does no harm at all.
You need about the size of a 50p to get an even coverage (on my hair anyway) and it goes on really well and feels soft on application and hair kind of drinks it in and you can't see the conditioner on your head. The consistency of this conditioner is nice enough it's not too runny and does appear creamy in your hand but as you apply it goes kind of transparent. Colour wise its a pale creamy colour and looks a bit like the cream of rice pudding (out of a tin lol).
The most off putting thing about this to me, in fact it makes me feel a bit sickly is the smell. I'm not at all keen. Yes there is a smell of lemons but not a fresh zingy smell it's somewhat tamed down by Lavender and it smells kind of rough. Like a talc. I don't like it and when it's rinsed out of hair your left with an odd smell on your hair but it's not highly fragranced and does smell kind of natural rather than full of chemical induced fragrance so I can put up with that.
Rinsing it out is really easy, I do agree that it's a light conditioner on them grounds. Hair is left feeling reasonably soft but not any softer than alot of other 'ordinary' conditioners at less than half the price of this you can get hold of. Combing it is easy and hair doesn't fel greasy or dry just fairly smooth.
After blow drying my hair feels light but not as soft as using my usual conditioners (any that are in the bathroom lol). It's no different to dry or style. Hair has a shine to it but I had that to begin with so on the upside at least I never lost that!
Really I can't rave about this. It's not worth the price tag unless you really are Vegan and see the point in the product! It doesn't do anything special, it , like my other decent conditioners does help somewhat with frizzies and shine and hair does look fresh, but really Lush it isn't one of your best products!
Ok for men and women but I won't be buying it again, a pound a bottle and I would!
