Advantages: Great (but interesting) smell. Makes your hair look good. Vegan product.

Disadvantages: Costs about twice as much as I normally pay for conditioner

As I start to write this, I have the veganese conditioner on my hair, which is all piled up whilst I let it soak in. I always leave conditioners on much longer than it says on the bottle because I like to let the stuff sink in. I'm not sure about the science of this but I have really fine hair which has suffered over the years. I am also very particular about how I treat my hair (having a variant of lupus - that has made me lose some of it in the past). I like not to have to wash (or fiddle with it) too much. I like it to have a bit of volume and be a bit shiny and easy to brush.

Price and Appearance
---------------------------

I got the conditioner as a mother's Day present and my daughter said it was 'expensive'. Checking on the Lush site reveals it is £6.61 for 250g. I usually expect conditioners to be half that price. It is in a recyclable Body Shop type bottle with a black label on. It also has a sticker on the side of the label to tell me that 'This product was made by Jack....' with a cartoon of Jack and the 'made by' and 'use by' date. This is a nice touch - but the fact is - although I want to use vegan products and this is one - I don't like the dull labelling and I'm not sure I like the name 'Veganese'; it sounds like a biscuit (Veganese Whirl).

Lush tells us
---------------

'Our vegan customers have quite enough to put up with without having rough, dull, tangled hair. The majority of Lush products are vegan, but making a vegan conditioner (without lanolin from sheared sheep's wool) took us a few years because it was so difficult. Absolutely refusing to be beaten, Helen Ambrosen finally found a formula that reached her high standards, using agar seaweed gel as a hair softener with lavender and lemons for shine. It's an effective conditioner for you to use. Vegans and everyone with fine hair should choose this one and stick with it.'

My response
----------------

It sounds like it should do the trick. Back in a moment - just off to rinse my hair.

Well, it rinsed off very easily, releasing the the interesting mixture of lavender (a relaxant aroma) with zingy lemons (a wake you up aroma). My hair has been easy easy to comb through and my scalp feels 'refreshed'

Ingredients
---------------

Lavender Flower Infusion (Lavandula augustifolia)
Rosemary Infusion (Rosmarinus officinalis)
Agar Agar Gel (Gelidium cartilagineum), - That's seaweed - like in the petri dishes at school

Cetearyl Alcohol,
Propylene Glycol,
Cetearyl Alcohol & Sodium Lauryl Sulfate,
Cetrimonium Bromide,
Lemon Oil (Citrus limonum),
Benzoin Resinoid (Styrax benzoin),
Fresh Organic Lemon Juice (Citrus limonum),
Citral,
Limonene,
Perfume

Just off to wrestle with the hairdryer......

Back now and very recent comment about hair from significant other was, " It looks nice - what have you done to it? You've got big hair."

My thoughts are that my hair feels light and soft even though it has blow-dried volume in it. If it was on someone else's hair (perhaps someone who knew me and someone I liked) I would want to play with it because it feels touchable.

It is also pleasingly shiny.

Significant other also reported that hair smelled " Fruity - is it pineapple? It smells fresh." So the tangy smell of citrus survived the vigourous rinse, blowdry and hairspray smell.

Wow! In this review - you are getting actual real time experience AND some market research.

Would I buy it again?
--------------------------

If I had lots of money, I would always buy this. I would probably have a few other conditioners knocking around too - because I think it is good to change now and again. Because I am quite thrifty - I'd say that I would buy it again - but not that often.

Just caught myself sniffing my own hair - I must really like it.

Summary: Great conditioner - and worth the investment (now and then)
