Lush Veganese Conditioner
Advantages: Gives soft and silky hair
I think it is pretty obvious by now that I'm Lush obsessed! I'm quite happy to spend my money on their products as I find the results are worth it. Of course not every item is wonderful but one item I find that is particularly great (amongst a lot of others!) is Veganese conditioner. Obviously it is Lush's vegan conditioner as it replaces lanolin with Japanese seaweed gel and Lush declare it suitable for all skin types. I have quite normal hair which has a natural wave but as its coloured it sometimes needs a bit more care.
Veganese is Lush's mid-strength off white coloured conditioner and has quite a thick consistency which makes it more economical because you don't need to use a lot at any one time. You only need to use about a 50p sized amount which makes even the 100g bottle last a lot longer. Obviously if you have amazingly long hair then you have to use slightly more and if you have short hair then you use slightly less!
Veganese has a gorgeous fragrance which I could never tire of. Lush use lemon oil which has a very zesty fragrance. It is antiseptic and cleansing making it ideal for cleansing the scalp as well as the hair. But Lush don't stop there with the lemon fragrance! They also use fresh organice lemon juice (Sicilian lemons no less!). Again like lemon oil fresh lemon juice is a powerful degreaser and cleanser which tones the scalp and refreshes body, hair and mind. To balance the potent lemon aroma lavender flower infusion is used for its soothing and antiseptic properties. Lavender is known for its calming properties ideal for skin complaints and of course calming the mind. To top Veganese's fragrance off rosemary infusion is used for its herbal fragrance but rosemary is great for calming the skin and also for people who suffer with dandruff.
One natural ingredient which Lush use in Veganese is benzoin resinoid which has been used for thousands of years for skin conditions. It comes naturally from evergreen trees. It has wonderful relaxing properties of the skin making it ideal for dry skin conditions. It is great for soothing the scalp and it also helps give the hair a wonderful shine. It has a sweet, vanilla aroma which has a long lasting perfume. In a nutshell benzoin Resinoid relaxes, soothes, warms and calms both mind, body and hair!
As I mentioned above this is Lush's vegan conditioner (as the name says!) as Lush have replaced lanolin (sheeps wool) with agar agar gel which comes from a species of seaweed. Agar agar gel has wonderful softening, cleansing and moisturising properties ideal for both skin and hair. In Veganese conditioner it also thickens up the base of the conditioner.
Veganese has a gorgeous instant lemon aroma when you first apply it to your hair and it's not like a lemon cleaner fragrance, it's lovely and fresh. But once you get used to zesty lemonyness balancing and calming lavender and toning rosemary come in to play followed quickly by the vanilla sweetness which gives this conditioner a fresh, calming but softly sweet fragrance. This scent is actually quite complex and would suit both men and women.
A little of this conditioner goes a long way and as soon as I've applied it to my hair my hair is silky soft and tangle free and of course immersed with the gorgeous aroma. Washing it off seems to make my hair even softer which makes it incredibly hard to get out of the shower! Blow drying my hair has never really been an issue as my hair is quite 'normal'. I've found with Veganese that my hair is so much softer when I've finished styling my hair and it has a lovely shine and on the whole it looks a lot healthier. I also like the fact that my scalp has been thoroughly cleansed and I certainly feel soothed!
What Lush say:
"Lavender and lemon all-round conditioner for all hair types. Our vegan customers have quite enough to put up with without having rough, dull, tangled hair. The majority of Lush products are vegan, but making a vegan conditioner without lanolin (from sheared sheep's wool) took us a few years. Absolutely refusing to be beaten, Helen Ambrosen finally found a formula that reached her high standards, using agar seaweed gel as a hair softener with lavender and lemons for shine. It's an effective conditioner for you to use. Vegans and everyone with fine hair should choose this one and stick with it."
