Advantages: Leaves nice shine to the hair, tames frizz
Disadvantages: Too thick, hard to run through the hair
Hair serum is a staple for me, a product I use as regularly as shampoo and shower gel, and so I got through a heck of a lot of it. I recently found a fantastic serum by Angel Fish, and planned on buying more, however I had a voucher for £2 off the professional hair care ranges at boots and found that if I bought this one it would work out slightly cheaper than the Angel Fish one. It was only a small difference in price, but like many people I'm trying to cut back right now, and I always like to try something new!
I've only ever used one Mark Hill product before, and that was a shampoo. Unfortunately I seemed to have a reaction to it and it left my scalp flaky. That was about three years ago now and I decided it was about time I gave the brand a second chance.
The packaging of this product is gorgeous. In fact I really like the packaging of the entire Mark Hill range, the bottles always look young and funky and it's obvious that you didn't buy their products for £1.99 down at the local chemist! The bottle this comes in is flat at the front, but the back is semi-circular. It has a clear plastic outer casing, pink inside and the actual pump which you dispense it from is silver. I think it looks really good, but the bottle is quite big, and because it has the thick outer casing it only holds 50ml so don't be fooled into thinking you are getting more for your money.
My hair is quite thick and I get quite a bit of frizz, so I need a serum which will tame it and hopefully add a bit of shine too.
The serum itself is quite thick, and has a slight scent to it, but I can't really identify what it is. It's quite fresh, and smells OK, but the scent is so subtle you will hardly notice it. Because the serum is so thick, I find it quite difficult to run through my hair, and also find that a lot of it seems to stay on my hands, which means I am getting through my bottle at record speed.
The serum does it's job well. It tames any frizz I may have and adds shine. Despite it being thick and a slight pain in the neck to apply, it doesn't actually weigh my hair down at all, and doesn't leave it looking greasy which is something that can often happen. It leaves a nice shine on my hair, but the shine is quite subtle and not quite as good as others I have tried.
This comes in two sizes - a 20ml travel size and a full sized 50ml bottle. The 20ml costs £3.91 and the 50ml is £5.86, which is OK, but there are cheaper ones available that are actually better - namely the Angel Fish one and the Pantene Pro-V.
Overall, this was OK. It tamed my frizz and made my hair look smooth. It has lovely packaging too, but I really do think that there are much better serums out there at a more reasonable price and I don't think I'd buy it again.
Summary: Look around because there are others that are better but cost the same
