I've been looking for a good quality hair spray to finish my style for quite a while now. My hair is a short / medium style (I'm male!), but very thick and can be hard to manage some days. I don't intend to use hairspray every day, just on those days where my style needs a bit of 'oomph.' I've tried various products with little success - the latest being Matrix's Design Pulse Hair Spray.
At first, I must admit I was very impressed by the initial quality of this product. The bottle is stylish, much like the majority of the Matrix range. I applied a small amount of the product after styling, and was impressed by the initial hold it gave. It wasn't sticky, and equally, my style wasn't 'locked' - it could be moved around if needs be, just how I like it to be. It also smells great, with a fruity, melon like fragrance.
Unfortunately, despite all the early promise, I was left disappointed by the staying power of this product. After only about half an hour, my style started to fall flat, and within an hour it had fallen completely. I was able to move it around and work it back into place, but it wouldn't stay there. I thought that maybe I wasn't using the right amount; but I soon discovered that no matter how much product I put on, the hold factor just wasn't there. Perhaps this would be a different case for hair that is less thick, but for me it just won't go the distance.
Price wise, I paid £7.99 for my bottle, so about mid-range for a salon quality product. I wouldn't buy it again, but that's not to say that it wouldn't work for someone who's hair is not so thick!
