Matrix Sleek Look Smoothing Shampoo
by wazza115
One range of hair products I would highly recommend for anyone who has hair like mine which is curly, frizzy and heat damaged is the Matrix Sleek range which was recommended to me by my hairdresser.
The shampoo comes in a bright orange bottle, which has the brand and range detailed on the front in black and white writing. It ... comes with a flip top lid which is a slightly darker orange colour.
I tend to by mine from my local hairdressers, but the Matrix range is also available online from places such as Amazon and EBay. Prices can vary and I do find it mostly tends to be cheaper buying from my hairdressers as online there is normally a shipping charge payable.
The shampoo costs around £6 for a 250ml bottle, this is a bit expensive compared to other brands out on the market, but I do find that I don't use as much when using this shampoo as I would cheaper brands and a bottle lasts me a good couple of months because I don't use it every time I wash my hair, just at weekends, special occasions or when we go away.
The shampoo is quite thick and is cream in colour (but has that pearlessent effect), I have shoulder length hair and apply just shy of a 50p sized amount to my hair. The shampoo lathers up really easily and feels quite luxurious when applying. When rinsing, I can immediately feel that my hair feels softer, so much so that it can feel like I am rinsing conditioner from my hair and not shampoo. Again, when it comes to brushing my hair, it too feels a lot softer and cleaner.
Once I have dried, my hair feels fantastic, it is a lot smoother, softer and shinier but more importantly, it looks amazing! This is the only range I have found that makes my hair look like I have just come from the hairdressers!
I also love the fragrance of the product, my other half always comments how nice my hair smells when I use this. It has a nice fruity fragrance which lasts quite a while; by the end of the day, I can still smell on my hair, and also in the bathroom
There are 4 different steps to the Matrix Sleek range,
- Step 1: Shampoo (a 300ml bottle has a RRP of approx £6)
- Step 2: Conditioner (a 250ml bottle has a RRP of approx £6)
- Step 3: Pre Styling products (oils, serums, and hot iron spray priced at around £8 for 150ml bottle)
- Step 4: Finishing touches (as well as this serum, they also have a moisture lock out spray which is similar to a hairspray which has a RRP of approx £9 for a 150ml bottle)
Matrix also does ranges for coloured hair, volume adding, strengthening etc which have a similar price tags to the Sleek range.
As with most hair products, they always say for best results, use with products from the same range, I would have to agree with this, I use the ironing spray and serum quite a lot but my hair always does feel and look better is I have used the shampoo too.
Although I try to put the shampoo away after every use to make sure nobody else uses it, a couple of times I have forgot and my other half has used, I can see it is quite kind to the skin as he suffers from psoriasis and sensitive skin and he has never experienced any problems when using.
The only downside for me is the design of the bottle, I prefer bottle which 'stand on the lid' as when I am getting towards the end of the bottle, I find it a lot easier to dispense and don't have to stand there for 5 minutes shaking the bottle! Having said that, this is the only downside and because of how good I find this shampoo, I would still give it 5 out of 5 stars and recommend.

Matrix Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Volume Protective Dry Mist
by wazza115
Because I tend to straighten my hair at least 4 times a week, the condition of my hair starts to suffer; it becomes dry and my ends start to split. To try and combat this, I like to use an ironing spray.
One range that I cannot compliment enough for its smoothing properties is the Matrix Sleek look range which was used and ... then recommended to me by my hairdresser last year. Having used their shampoo, conditioner and serum, I thought I would try their ironing spray.
I purchased this from my local hairdressers, but I have found that the Matrix range is also available on Amazon and EBay, prices vary dramatically so I would always recommend shopping around, EBay seems to have some silly prices!
The range has recently had a revamp, previously, this came in an orange see through bottle, now, the bottles are black, with the Matrix logo to the front written in white and the bottle has a golden pump spray. I really like the new look bottle, I think it looks a lot more expensive, luxurious and classy.
The product costs around £8 for a 250ml bottle which is a bit expensive compared to other brands out on the market but I do find that 1 bottle lasts me a good few months (and I always justify buying it by saying 'it is a present', for example, I am running a little low now so I will buy some more and say it is for Mothers Day!.
Using the product is really easy, spray a light mist on dry hair just before using you straightening irons and then off you go. The pump spray is quite accurate and I find it really easy to direct and control the spray into the area I want. When straightening, I found that I didn't have to go over the same area as many times as I normally would so I knew immediately, this was going to be better for my hair. The next surprise for me was how shiny my hair looked, I have quite dull looking hair (unless I go to the hairdressers), but I found that when I used this, my hair looked super glossy.
I love the fragrance of the product, my other half always comments how nice my hair smells when I use this. It has a nice fruity fragrance which lasts quite a while; by the end of the day, I can still smell on my hair, and also in the bathroom

As with most hair products, Matrix state that the ironing spray seems to deliver the best results when used with the rest of the range, I would have to agree with this, although the spray does an excellent job, my hair always feels and looks the best when I have used all the products from the range.
Overall, I would recommend this product and give 5 out of 5 stars.

Matrix Sleek Look Sealing Serum
by sympatic
This was recommended by a make up artists / hair stylist that I have worked with as being a product that would help control my hair which can be a bit boistrous and prone to frizzing, she gave me a quarter full bottle that she had to try and I have been so impressed with it that I have since gone aout and bought my own for £8.99 for a ... 150ml bottle.
It comes in an orange bottle with a pump dispenser on the top. You can see through the bottle so you know how much of the liquid you have left which is always useful to be able to do. It is a thick gel like liquid so you only need to use a little at a time, you pump a small amount into your hand and then run your fingers through your already dried and straightened hair. It is important not to apply too much in any one go, I made this mistake the first time I used it despite my friends warnings to the contrary and my hair looked rather greasy and heavy which meant I had to was and dry it again. You really do only need to use a little at a time.
It has a fruity smell to it however it is not very strong. This product certaionly helps to maintain hold in my hair leaving it with a nice healthy shine and it is very effective at preventing any frizzing. It nourtishes my hair and controls it at the same time which is very useful indeed. It seems to work well after straitening my hair which is the only time that I apply this product hence I expect the bottle to last an awful long time as I do not straighten my hair on a daily basis just when want a straight look.
I would certainly say that the effects of this product is pretty good, I have also seen some reduction in the problem of split ends which is something I get now and again especially when I grow my hair out before changing style.
I would have no hesitation recommending this product, it is not cheap in the shops but can be bought quite reasonably online. Read the complete review |
