Advantages: Leaves hair soft, cheap, smells great

Disadvantages: Doesn't leave hair shiny or replenished, time consuming

Montagne Jeunesse is most commonly linked to cheap face masks that retail in most major stores such as chemists and supermarkets. I have tried 2 or 3 of these face masks both at my house and at friends houses when we've been having a girly evening with wine and DVD's and always been impressed especially for the lowly price tag.

As a result of my positive feelings towards this brand when I saw a hair mask beside the face masks in Asda I didn't hesitate to add it to my shopping basket. I have always suffered from dry hair and so anticipated that this may be just the tonic my hair needed to revive it.

The hair mask comes in a plastic coated packet which is awash with brightly coloured images and fancy fonts. There are basic instructions and an ingredients list on the back. Also it states that the product is suitable for vegans, gluten and dairy free.

There are two steps to using this hair mask:

Step One: The moisture miracle mask

Step Two: Protect and seal serum

First of all I shampooed my hair as usual and towel dried it as instructed then I added all of the conditioning product all over my hair gently massaging it into my roots and ends. I then left the mask on for about 10 minutes but the timing depends on how damaged your hair is to begin with. Washing out the conditioner after 10 minutes was very easy and washed out just like any usual conditioner. The scent is very much shea butter orientated which is sweet yet very pleasant.

Next, I added the serum which was of a completely different texture to the conditioner and was more gloopy and sticky so this was quite difficult to apply to the hair it was very oily and I feared that it would make my hair the same. I added all of the sachet to my hair and left it for several minutes. Washing it out was a bit more difficult than rinsing out the conditioner but eventually I was serum-free.

The instructions advise you to leave your hair to dry naturally and not to use any heated products on your hair, I guess this is because heat damages your hair in the first place. I did let my hair dry naturally and after a few hours I inspected the results.

My hair felt very soft and fine but other than that my hair was still dry and dull meaning that the serum had little effect also. This was very disappointing especially given that it took over 20 minutes to complete both steps so it was a lot of effort for no positive gain!

The ingredients include Pro Vitamin B5, Shea butter and Vitamin E. The Shea butter is supposed to seal in moisture but as I have already said I didn't see the effects of this. Warning: Test sensitivity to natural oils; apply a small amount of neat product to inside of upper arm, leave for 5 minutes. If reaction occurs do not use. If contact with eyes occurs wash out with cold water. Natural ingredients may vary in colour. Keep out of reach of children. External use only. Not for use with babies or children.

This hair mask costs 99p from Asda so there was little to lose but I won't be using the product again I would rather pay a little more for a good product that improves the health of my hair.
