Advantages: Works like a charm!!

Since birth my 6 year old son has suffered with an itchy, flaky scalp. I was told it was just cradle cap and it would just disappear. However, by the age of 4 it was still there and still in full-flow. This persuaded me that the problem wouldn't just disappear by itself so tried pretty much every shampoo and scalp solution known to man to try and combat the problem.

Eventually, by recommendation by a friend suffering a similar problem, I tried Neutrogena T-Gel shampoo. I had seen it advertised on TV quite regularly but never really associated it with the problems my son was suffering with as I thought he would need a specialist treatment to solve the problem but after trying many other products without success I thought I would give it a go.

The shampoo comes in a clear rectangular bottle with blue plastic flip-top lid to prevent spillage. My first opinion on this shampoo when I brought it was that it looked rather unappealing. Through the clear bottle you could see the shampoo itself was a rather vile brown colour with almost a hint of yellow. Yuck!! Oh well, worth a shot I thought!

You use this shampoo in the same way as others. You simply wet hair as normal, add a dollop of shampoo and massage into hair and scalp and then rinse thoroughly.

The shampoo is very thick in texture. Its not 'runny' like that of other shampoos. When you squeeze the bottle its dispensed in 'dollops' rather than a runny liquid like most shampoos. This does however prevent spillage and wastage. You only need a small amount per wash (around the size of a 2 pence piece) so the bottle will last quite a while.

T-Gel has a rather distintive smell. After not being overly impressed by the appearance of the shampoo, I half expected it to smell pretty bad too. The scent is quite strong, but not in a bad way and leaves your hair with a nice, clean smell after use.

This shampoo is specificially designed for problems such as dandruff, scalp problems, psoriasis, and dermatitis and for this reason T-Gel shampoo isn't cheap. You can pick it up from most chemists such as boots, superdrug etc and a 125ml bottle of T-Gel will set you back around £4.09 or a 250ml bottle will cost you around £6.29.

Does it work? Well yes it does actually, and rather well too. It only too around 2/3 washes to start noticing a difference to my sons scalp and after around 7/8 washing it had seemed to disappear completely. It may not work this efficiently for everybody but it certainly did the trick for me. Whenever I see a sign now of my sons scalp getting a bit flaky again I always use this straight away for a few washes and the problem disappears again for a good few months. I use it now as a preventative measure, rather than a cure, but I am really impressed at how T-Gel combated my sons problem scalp with such ease and rather quickly too.

Obviously as you can see above, T-Gel isn't cheap. However, if you or your family suffer from and hair/scalp problems then I thoughly recommend T-Gel as a simple, gentle solution to your problems. I now always make sure I keep a bottle in for when the problem starts to occur and its never failed to work yet. Highly recommended
