I have been suffering with a itchy, dry scalp, I thought I had dandruff as I had white flakes of skin present throughout my hair, I used my husbands head and shoulders shampoo for a few weeks but I did not improve my hair at all. I was driving home after work and my head was beyond itchy I had to pull over into a lay-by to itch my hair, believe it or not but I sat their for 15 mins itching my scalp, I must of looked crazy to passing cars. When I arrived home I went straight to my local chemist for advice, I was recommended to try T Gel Therapeutic Shampoo.

The T Gel shampoo cost me £4.50 for a small 125 ml bottle from my chemist but it can be bought in larger bottles and from all good supermarkets. My second bottle cost £3.75 from tesco for a 125 ml bottle. I now have it on prescription and it works out a lot cheaper for me.

It comes in a light blue rectangled box, the box has black writing on it and the shampoo is made by Neutrogena. The box has lots of details on the back and instructions of how to use, the bottle is transparent with a blue lid. It states it is a effective treatment for scalp psoriasis, seborrhoeic dermatitis and dandruff. It treats your scalp and cares for your hair. It looks very clinical and boring but at the end of the day it is a medicated shampoo.

Its has to be used two to three times a week to help control scalp problems, it has a very strange smell to it, it smells a lot like a branded disinfectant (detol!) I actually quite like the smell and find it lingers on my hair for hours after I have washed it.

To use the shampoo you have to thoroughly wet your hair and apply liberal amounts of the shampoo to your hair and then massage it into your scalp and leave it for a few minutes to allow the shampoo treatment to work on problem areas of your scalp. It states that you then have to rinse the shampoo off and then do it again and rinse again.

I found the shampoo did lather but not as good as a regular shampoo, It comes out the bottle with a hard squeeze as it is very thick in consistency which gives you very little control of how much shampoo you end up with in your hand! Its a dark brown colour and looks and feels like jelly, the aroma from the shampoo is very strong but smells good in my opinion it must be the coal tar ingredient It takes a lot of effort to massage the shampoo all over my scalp, my arms were aching by the end of my shower.

As soon as I applied the shampoo I could feel it doing its job, it instantly started to relieve the itching feeling, it felt very soothing on my scalp and had a tingling sensation on my problem areas, it was not unpleasant at all. My hair looked very shiny after I used the shampoo and felt very clean and I was very surprised by this as it is a medicated scalp treatment shampoo. My dry scalp had improved from the first wash I still had a few flakes through my hair but it was a big improvement, the itching had subsided and my hair was less greasy the next day. After a week of using the shampoo it was hard to find any flakes and my hair was no longer itching and my scalp was starting to heal and looked much more healthy. T gel suggest that the shampoo should be used as a six week course and I am currently on week 3 and will continue using it until the six week mark. If the same problems occur again I will be heading straight to the chemist to buy more T Gel as it has truly worked for me.

There are a few warnings with the shampoo, avoid contact with eyes, may cause discolouration to dyed hair, may cause irritation to broken or inflamed skin and always consult your doctor if pregnant.

My only small niggle is that my hair was very knotted after i use the shampoo, i had to use a comb to get rid of the knots before i could use my hair brush. I found using a good conditioner helped this a little.

Summary: it really cares for your scalp
