I started suffering from a really stubborn dry, flaky scalp in my early twenties. I could scratch it to the point of bleeding. It was embarrassing and I often avoided wearing dark coloured tops because of it. I tried numerous specialist shampoos and nothing seemed to help.

After googling my problem online I came across t-gel therapeutic. I was sceptical but thought it was worth a try. This shampoo can be picked up in most large supermarkets and chemists. It's pretty widely available. It cost me about £5 for 125ml...so not a huge bottle, but it is available in a bigger sizes. This is obviously an expensive shampoo, but if necessary your doctor can prescribe it to you. If you live in Scotland or Wales you can get prescriptions for free, so it's well worth it of you're not absolutely terrified of your local GPs office like I am! Even if you have to pay for this shampoo it's totally worth it.

The shampoo is tar like - both in consistency and smell - it is a dark caramel brown colour. The smell is pretty unpleasant, and definitely had a medicinal edge. It lingers on the hair too, but I got used to it pretty quickly. The consistency is thick, and you don't really need to use much of it. I found the best way to use this was to massage it into your scalp. The shampoo lathers up quite well and you can almost feel it cleaning your hair and working on your scalp. It's best to leave it on your hair for a few minutes before rinsing off. You can repeat the process after the first rinse but I never really felt this was necessary.

This shampoo worked wonders for me. Within a week my scalp was about 50% better, and it had cleared completely within about 4 weeks. I have to say that it isn't recommended for daily use, but I used this every day. The shampoo left my hair soft, if a little bit flyaway.

I stopped using T-gel Theraputic Shampoo gradually. I didn't want to immediately switch to something else in case my scalp became a problem again. I went down to using this three times a week, then twice, then once, and eventually was able to stop using it altogether. If I ever feel my scalp becoming tight or becoming flaky I know I can pick up a bottle of this and treat it quickly and effectively.
