Advantages: good colour, quick, easy, convenient

Disadvantages: none

As far as I can remember my natural hair colour is a sort of mousy brown/dark blonde sort of colour. I can't say for sure as I haven't actually seen it since I was 14! Until I was about 20 I used to dye it blonde and then for the last 4 years I've been dyeing it dark brown. I have been thinking of going back to blonde for quite some time now, as I feel the dark brown against my pale skin is a stark contrast and makes me look washed out and ghostly. On the other hand, I'm scared of looking brassy or my hair going an orangey shade which has happened in the past. Because of my indecisiveness on which colour to go, it's been several months since I actually dyed my hair, so the colour was looking very faded and dull.

Having a very bad day last week, I found myself in Boots, a place I often frequent when I am feeling bad about myself, and began to stock up on anything and everything that I thought would make me look even marginally less crap. Even though I hadn't been planning to dye my hair, I thought it was about time I did, and found myself drawn to Clairol's Perfect 10, a dye I hadn't seen before.

One of the main selling points of this dye, is that it promises to give 'high speed, high gloss colour in just 10 minutes'. Dyeing my hair is a bit of a chore for me, and not a task I enjoy, so the promise of great results in just half the time it normally would take, sounded fantastic to me.

In the box you get a tube of colour crème, a bottle of activating crème, a tube of conditioning crème and a pair of gloves, which were the nice good quality ones, as I can't stand those 'plastic bag' type gloves you sometimes get because they make my hands sweat!! Now, another thing you get in the box, is a comb applicator and a applicator tip which attach to the top of your bottle of activating crème. If you are just doing your roots you use the applicator tip which is like a nozzle. If you want to dye all of your hair, then you use the comb attachment. I must admit, this was the first time I've ever used a dye which has a comb attachment, so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from it.

Making up the dye was very easy. You simply squeeze the colour cream into the developer crème, put the lid back on and shake to mix. Then remove the lid, and add either the comb or the nozzle attachment.

I found the comb attachment very easy to use. You need to squeeze it gently and then just run through your hair (which should be dry by the way) like a normal comb. The dye came out easily, and I found it very quick to cover all of my hair. One thing I would note is that it's quite potent, and actually made my eyes water. Unfortunately when I used this I was full of cold, so I can't really comment on what (if anything) it smelled like. On a more positive note, I have quite long, thick hair, and in the past found there was barely enough dye to cover all my hair, but with this one I actually found I had dye left over.

You then need to leave the colour for just 10 minutes before rinsing. I found that it all rinsed out easily and my hair didn't have the strange coarse feeling it sometimes does straight after being dyed. The final step of the process is to apply a small amount of the conditioning crème and leave on for two minutes. You are given enough of this crème to be used once a week for six weeks, and it should keep your hair looking glossy and the colour fresh. When I rinsed this conditioner from my hair it felt amazingly soft, and very conditioned.

Once dry, I found the colour was true to the one on the box, and my hair was, as promised very glossy as well as feeling soft and healthy. I was really pleased with the results, especially as I was concerned that the colour wouldn't be as strong with the mixture only being on my hair for half the time I would normally expect it to be.

The dye costs £6.84 from Boots which I'd say is about average for a hair dye - I normally expect to pay around £5 -£8 for one, so this price wasn't too bad.

Overall, I was very pleased with this dye. It's extremely quick and easy to use, the results are fantastic and I will definitely buy it again.

Summary: Fantastic!

What colour did you use? I'm thinking of buying it in the light blonde as my hair is blonde with a few white hairs but I'm not sure if it will go too dark or be too damaging for my hair.

Good review though I found it difficult to use with the comb.
