Advantages: Quick to work - didn't melt my head

Disadvantages: Smells heavily of peroxide - bit fiddly too

After a few disparaging comments from my husband about how much longer was he going to have to look at my skanky hair - I knew it was time to get the DIY dye kit out.

I headed off to Tesco's and remembered Perfect 10 from it's recent advertising campaign.Further to this Tesco's were promoting these for half price and I got my box for £3.25 - rrp £6.99. I was chuffed. I chose Light Auburn and the picture on the box gave an indcation of the colour I could achieve. As usual there were options on the box for if your shade was light blonde you could look like pretty bright auburn, light brown would be rich auburn and darker brown would give a chestnut hue.

In the box
~~~~~~~~~~
The packaging is quite new and fresh. Half the top of the box is clear allowing you to see the contents. Inside are three different numbered containers. Number one is the peroxide mix, no 2 is the colour and accelerator and number three is a tube of gloss conditioner that lasts for six weeks after colouring as you use it directly after colouring and then again once a week to keep up the condition and shine of the colour. In additon there are two different screw top connectors, one is a fine point fo doing root touch ups and the other is a comb applicator which is what I used for first time coverage. There is also the folded A3 instructions upon whch the protective gloves are lightly attached. The gloves were pretty heavy duty and not just rubbish polythene like I have found in other boxes.
The process
~~~~~~~~~~~

My husband always helps me whenever I get out the dye. I have TONS of hair and he can ensure that I get really good coverage at the back. The instructions, which spend a large majority of the page issuing warnings about potential problems, advising strand tests, and generally being quite scary, have a much smaller part at the bottom detaling the process. You basically squeeze number 2 bottle into number 1 and then give it a right old shake (lid on of course). Squeezy tube 3 which is the conditioner is used after the process. On the whole squeezing tube 2 into 1 is fiddly if I'm honest. There are other brands which have much easier clip together bottles to make this process more simple and less likely to spill the potent chemicals. Care is needed here.

Once you have mixed the dye, you then apply and it stresses very clearly to leave for 10 mins max - before you wash the colour out and then apply the conditioner for a further two mintues, rinse and style as normal.

Whilst you are waiting it is very evident that this is a PEROXIDE product. My eyes were watering as the smell was pretty strong. I always use an ol towel to when I dye my hair and this is not a product I would like to get on my clothes.

The finished result
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My hair felt lovely and conditioned and seemed really shiny. The colour was really good for me, it looks natural and I was pleased. My hubby said it looked in good condition but didn't notice a big change in the colour. Not one of my work colleagues noticed, or if they have they didn't say - but as I was filling up my car with fuel this old geezer winked at me and said, I've always liked a nice redhead! Apart from being a little creeped out I was quite pleased that to the outside world my hair looked in nice condition.
I believe I will use this product again, the colour didn't blow me away but it was very quick as a process and that for me is great.
Summary: Yeah this is ok
Yes - I do know how lucky I am - but sometimes I do wonder if he's more in touch with his feminine side than he lets on!!! :-)
I'm sorry, I couldn't read past 'my husband always helps me.. to get really good coverage at the back' !! Do you realise how lucky you are? My husband thinks my hair changes colour by magic! Would you rent him out?
I'll have to try this next time I fancy a change :) Wasn't sure if it was as good as advertised but glad to hear there are positive reviews out there.
