Advantages: Lovely colour and very shiny

Disadvantages: Doesn't cover grey

I was in desperate need of a trip to the hairdressers to have by roots done but due to buying a new coat and handbag this month it was beginning to look highly unlikely that I was going to be able to afford it. I have dark blond hair with a couple of different shades of blonde highlighted through it and on a quick google of hair colourants that could be used on highlighted hair, Nice & Easy Perfect 10 was one of the most featured.

I decided to give it a try as it was only £6.99 and the blurb on the box said that it would 100% cover resistent greys, which was the main problem I was having with my roots.

My preference from looking at the shades on the internet was medium blonde, but as Boots didn't have any left, I decided to try the alternative lightest blonde. The indicator on the back of the box showed that as it was only likely to lighten your hair by a couple of shades, I wouldn't end up much blonder that I currently was.

The instructions, as usual, recommend that you mix a small amount of the product 48 hours before so that you can carry out a strand test. The main use of this is so that you can make sure that you don't have an allergic reaction, and secondly, if you do have resistent greys, to see how long they take to cover. Perfect 10 is designed to work between 10 and 15 minutes, and it is more likey that you will require the 15 minutes if you do have resistent greys.

In the box you have a mixing bottle with two different types of end to attach to it. The first is a traditional nozzle end which you use if you have less than half an inch of roots. You would use this to deal with the roots and then swap to the alternative comb end to cover the rest of your hair. If you have not coloured your hair before, or have not done so for more than three months, you can go straight into using the comb attachment.

The developer solution is already in the mixing bottle, and after taking off the screw lid, you need to squeeze the colour solution into the mixing bottle, reapply the screw cap, and shake well for at least 20 seconds. Once mixed, you can attach whichever end you need to use and apply the colour.

Nice & Easy say that the comb part of the applicator is a revolutionary device and will make colouring much easier faster. Personally, I only found the comb device useful on the top sections of my hair. As I combed the colour down through to the ends, it started to drop all over the place and was not covering the hair itself. In the end, I squeezed the mixture into my hands and covered the ends of my hair that way, then used the comb device to comb it all through.

As I have resistent greys, I left the mixture for the full 15 minutes. I then rinsed my hair thoroughly and applied the colour lock conditioner. Before applying the conditioner my hair felt as if it was just about to drop out! It felt like wet cotton wool, incredibly tangly and I must admit panic had started to set in. The conditioner however transformed it instantly and by the time I got out of the shower, I could feel that my hair felt in good condition.

Once my hair was dry, it was sleek and extremely shiny. The colour was slightly lighter than the indicator on the box, but not to a great extent. However, it certainly didn't cover my greys. As I had gone blonder, the greys don't show as much as they are blending in with the blonde colour that has taken, but on a close inspection you can see that they are there as much as ever. Nice & Easy state that any greys may turn out a slightly lighter colour than the rest of your hair, which is ok if you are going blonde, but if you are colouring your hair brown or black, a lighter shade is always going to show up even more.

On the whole, I was pleased with the colour, but i'm unsure whether I would use it again. Certainly if I wanted to go dark blonde/brown, I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole as I know that the greys would show straight through

Summary: Not for people trying to cover grey hairs

I really dislike all Nice n Easy dyes, I think they're terrible. I used them for years, lol.
