Advantages: cheap, available, good colour, good conditioner

Disadvantages: strong smell, time to apply, does not last considering its 'permanent'

Being a fake redhead, I find my colour fades really fast so I have to keep topping-up every 3 weeks or so. Since I saw the advert for Clairol perfect 10, I was immediatley attracted by the rich, auburn shade 6R, which is the colour I ended up buying. This dye is easilly obtainable and available in most drugs stores, Boots, Superdrug, ect. I bought it for the bargain price of £4.99 on offer at Boots rather then its usually £6.99 price tag.

This colour promises to give results in a speedy 10 minutes, good for those who have little time on their hands. The amino-glyceine complex speeds up the process, apparently, and leaves you with high-gloss, salon style colour in a fraction of the time.

The packaging is attractive, and has a pretty girl on the front with gorgeous, toussled, auburn hair. The question was, will mine turn out the same? It is safe to say I was skeptical! The pack contains 1 bottle of developer liquid, 1 tube of colour creme, gloves, instructions and a tube of that luxurious colour conditioner.

The applicator nozzle is a comb, I found this a bit tricky to use, I personally preffer a tiniting brush or nozzle. But what the hell. Parted my hair into four sections, and started at the roots. Now, here's the bit where my nose starts to tingle, as the smell is very overpowering, I guess this is because it's high-strentgh colour. I would advise anyone to open a window whilst using this!

After about 20-25 minutes, my hair was completley covered. I thought this was a long time considering it only takes 10 minutes to develop, so I probably left the dye on for longer then the supposed time. (oops!)Then again, my hair is thick and long and takes double the time rather then someone with fine/short hair. I would recommend buying 2 packs if you have long or thick hair as I just had enough to cover my full head.

After waiting 10 minutes, i proceeded to rinse, The water washed out a very mahoganny shade, I was quite worried it had turned out this colour but trust me, it didnt. Dont be alarmed if this happens to you! Added a blob of conditioner, lovely coconutty-smelling stuff that just seems to melt into your hair.

Seeing myself in the mirror, my hair did look dark, but dont forget, when wet your hair is 7 shades darker. I rushed to the hairdryer and started to dry as I really wanted to see the true result....which was a lovley, rich auburn, like that of a Reniassance painting..just what I wanted!!! The colour was true to the box, my hair felt soft and very shiny.

I would recommend this for anyone who has light brown to light auburn hair if you wanted a really intense shade of red that will get you noticed, give it a go!!

*UPDATE*
still using this product as i love the shade, HOWEVER, considering Clairol state this dye to be permanent, it sure as hell isnt! I find it fades after 2 washes and thats with using a colour protective shampoo. I think Clairol need to work on this, its such a shame because the colour is perfect!

Summary: all round I was quite please and would buy again, but wish it lasted longer
