NICKY CLARKE

Nicky Clarke is described by journalists as the world's most 'newsworthy' hairdresser. Its hardly surprising when you think about the massive selection of products available in most high street stores.

Nicky Clarke trained with Leonard Soon a legendary hairdresser of the 70's. Nicky now has his own salon in Mayfair, London which was opened in 1991. A year later he won the 'London Hairdresser of the Year' award and in 1994 he won the 'British Hairdresser of the Year'. Since then a salon in Manchester and Birmingham has been opened. Many ranges of products have been released. The 'Nicky Clarke' range is very popular and the name is a basic mark of quality.

APPEARANCE

I received this hairdryer last year as a Christmas gift. I went through a huge pink phase and most of last years presents were pink. I was chuffed when I opened this present as I had never owned a brand name hairdryer.

The hairdryer is mainly silver with a pink nozzle and pink strip around the top reaching down the handle. It is stylish and I fell in love with it straight away. It has a very useful hanging tag on the bottom of the handle which made it a lot easier to store.

CONTENTS

The hairdryer is basic. There were no amazing features...just one nozzle (designed to get that salon finish), and instruction manual and the hairdryer itself. The nozzle is designed to get that salon finish although I do find that my hair dries better without it. The manual describes the 'nozzle' as a Professional concentrator for precision styling, but I didn't notice any real difference.

The manual goes into detail about health an safety...the usual thing such as not using by water...not messing with the plug or insides when plugged in etc. The manual also gives a few styling tips and techniques. I have not used these but they do look and sound fairly helpful.

The hairdryer itself is rather basic. It is a 2000w hairdryer which was more powerful than my previous 1200w hairdryer. It has 3 heat settings which are very useful for varying type of hair e.g. thick or thin, long or short. There are also 2 speed settings, obviously as you move up to the higher speed the sound levels get higher (you can hear the sound of the hairdryer in my video review). There is a cool shot button which can be used to enhance any hairstyle adding a nice finishing touch.

PERFORMANCE

I was very impressed with this hairdryer when I first used it. It was slightly quieter than my 'cheap' hairdryer which I would use everyday but a little noisier than my other 'super silent' hairdryer (which was about 7 months old) still in comparison however the overall noise is lower than your average hairdryer.

The hairdryer was much more effective at drying my hair. My old hairdryer took roughly 15-25 minutes to dry, but this one takes about 10 minutes each morning. This obviously leaves me with a few more minutes to lie in bed or to relax.

Working in school where nits are rife I rarely style my hair. I prefer to dry it then put it up. On the rare occasion that I have decided to style my hair I have found the hairdryer hard to use and would much rather use my small, cheap hairdryer. The hairdryer can be quite 'heavy' and as a result makes styling tricky.

This hairdryer was bought from Argos at the great price of £14.99 last year, it has dropped slightly in price however and is now available from Amazon at £12.99. Hairdryers are becoming more advanced every day and this one is now an older model. It is still a good product and £12.99 is a great price.

SUMMARY
----------------
This is a very basic hairdryer and does exactly what it claims to do 'dry hair'. I have found with some hairdryers that when they overheat they can cut out and take a while to 'recover', I have had no problems with the NC86 hairdryer and would strongly recommend it, especially for everyday, basic use.

Summary: Dry hair in minutes...with a 'salon' finish!
