Advantages: Heat up quickly
Disadvantages: Cause damage quickly
I bought these straighteners in the sale at argos, I paid £18.99, but they should have been £38.19, so I thought that they would be decent, especially with the Nicky Clarke brand. My hair is coarse, wavy and long, so I use straighteners every day, and I am on my fourth set in ten years. These are the worst ones that I have ever had.
They do heat up really quickly, and get very hot, (a heat mat would have been nice) but after a few uses, I have noticed that my hair looks dull, and it doesn't feel as nice as when I have used other straighteners. When I pull them down my hair, it makes a squeaking sound which I have never experienced before. I don't feel as though I want to use them every day as I have done in the past, as I can practically see the damage that they are causing. My hair is starting to fray and break off: normally when I tie my hair back, it all stays in the hairband, but now I have wisps at the front that are too short to be contained.
It has adjustable heat settings, but I find that anything lower than 5 (the hottest) simply doesn't get my hair straight. I have had straighteners before where the on button is esy to press whilst using the device, but the on/off switch on these is located on the inside of the handle, between the plates so you can't turn it off by accident. A red LED shows you when the appliance is on, but there is nothing to indicate when the appliance has heated up. The cord is just over 2m long, which isn't that great and does not offer you much flexability on location.
I appreciate that heat devices are not good for your hair, but these are definitely not "kinder for your hair" in my opinion, and there are plenty of better products to choose from in the same price bracket. My last set (which I stood on and broke - gutted) were Toni and guy ones, and were absolutely fantastic. For occasional use with a heat protection spray, these are good value, but for every day use, I would not recommend them.
Summary: I wouldn't buy these again
