Advantages: Leaves Hair Clean, Smells Delicious and Very Soft Hair.

Disadvantages: None!

I've tried a couple of Original Source products in the past, namely their tea tree range, and have to be honest when I say I wasn't really that keen at all. I think it was the rather overpowering smell that put me off the most, although it certainly smelt very clean it was a little off putting to walk around stinking of tea tree all day! However when I was doing my weekly shop I stopped to browse on the hair care aisle, much to the distress of my boyfriend who had been hoping for a quick dash around Asda, and noticed the Original Source shampoos and conditioners were on a buy one get one free promotion. As I was running low on shampoo and conditioner, and by low I mean I was down to my last five or six bottles, I decided to buy two of them just in case a worldwide shortage of shampoo and conditioner broke out in the near future.

The shampoo comes in a tall bottle which is almost like a triangle with two very long sides and quite a narrow base. The base is actually upturned meaning the lid is on top, now normally I prefer shampoo bottles to sit on their lid as it means when you near the end of the bottle all the remaining shampoo is already at the bottom and so comes out easily. The bottle is made of clear plastic which appears a deep almond colour due to the shampoo inside, and a chunky black plastic lid which you just need to flip open and closed. The front of the bottle has a label showing the brand name, the product name and the fact that it's a deep moisture shampoo designed for dry and coloured hair. The corresponding label on the back provides a list of ingredients and some rather basic and obvious instructions on how to use the shampoo.

Overall the packaging is simple and nothing special. I do like that it's made of clear plastic so you can see exactly how much you've got left to use when you're nearing the end. However on the downside I do prefer shampoo bottles to actually sit on their lids so all the liquid is always at the bottom next to the dispenser. I do always think the Original Source bottles look quite natural and organic in a sense, I'm not sure if it's the brand name that conjures up this image or if it's the fact they're relatively fancy free and quite plain. The conditioner bottle is virtually identical in terms of colour and style although the one gripe I do have here is that the bottle actually sits on the lid with the conditioner, so the bottle is almost naturally upturned. Now personally I think for the sake of uniformity the shampoo should have been the same!

The shampoo itself is a lovely almond, rich beige colour that makes me think it's quite natural and pure in a sense. To dispense the product simply pop open the black lid, turn the bottle upside down and squeeze. Now I did notice you had to squeeze quite forcefully to actually get a decent amount of the product out, it also comes out relatively slowly and as my hands were slippery due to being wet it wasn't the easiest thing to do. The shampoo itself has quite a thick consistency, more like a gel then a liquid which meant it was easier to control. Now for my favourite bit, the smell... it was absolutely delicious! It smells exactly like almonds and coconuts, it's really pure and slightly fruity and I can honestly say it smells good enough to eat as well! It reminded my boyfriend of Bakewell Tarts when he came in the bathroom after me.

So after I'd wet my hair and squeezed out my shampoo I began to rub it into my hair as instructed on the back of the bottle. I've got shoulder length, really thick hair and found I needed a blob about the size of three cherries to thoroughly cover my hair. The shampoo lathered up really well and the smell was absolutely delicious, my whole shower smelt of almonds which certainly is the most powerful of the two ingredients. I always wash my hair with shampoo twice so I repeated this same process and then applied the accompanying conditioner which smelt equally delicious. I then thoroughly rinsed my hair as suggested by the instructions and then proceeded to towel dry and style it as usual. The lovely scent was obvious the whole time I was combing my hair and practically made me want to eat my hair!!

Before I'd even started to dry my hair I could tell it was squeaky clean and it felt really soft even when wet. I also managed to comb my hair without encountering many knots at all which is quite an achievement for me, although this may be down to the conditioner more than the shampoo. I then went onto dry my hair and it was left looking really healthy and incredibly soft. I was actually surprised by how soft it felt as my hair is normally a little dry and frizzy due to it being quite curly and thick. There are very few shampoos and conditioners that I've come across that instantly give a noticeable difference in softness yet these did after only one use which I thought was amazing. I've since used the shampoo a further couple of times and the softness is still very evident and my hair looks really clean and shiny too when using it.

I normally find my hair last for three days between washes, sometimes I can get away with four days if I'm wearing it up and this shampoo provided no different results. I'm always wary when I use a new product that it'll make my hair go greasy much quicker but I can safely say this one didn't at all. There is absolutely nothing bad I can think of to say about this shampoo at all, it left my hair feeling really clean and really soft too. The smell was absolutely gorgeous, the almonds scent was really creamy and sweet while the coconut was much lighter but equally delicious. It really did make me want to drink the shampoo as it smelt that good! The scent remained in my bathroom after I'd had my shower and was still evident in my hair the next morning when I'd washed it the night before. Sadly it did fade after that first morning though!

The Original Source Almond and Coconut Shampoo is priced at £1.99 in Boots which was the same price as it was in Asda although it was on a buy one get one free offer so it actually cost under £1 for 250ml which seems quite a standard size of bottle in the world of shampoo. I certainly would fully recommend this shampoo, either at its bargain price or its original price as I certainly think it's worth every penny. It's left my hair feeling really clean, well conditioned and extra soft which is pretty much unheard of with my hair. This is mainly due to the fact that it contains almond and coconut essential oils which help to moisturise and nourish your hair. I'll certainly try out the other scents in this range although I think this one will remain my favourite... I certainly won't be trying the tea tree one again! Just try not to drink this shampoo!!

Thanks for reading.

Summary: A yummy smelling shampoo from Original Source.
