Advantages: Stimulating minty aroma, cheap, gets hair clean
Disadvantages: Bottle is plain, Dries hair out
I originally bought this because it was cheap and I liked the idea of a minty showering experience while washing my hair.
The bottle is nothing special - just a plain plastic container with a black flip top lid stating the ORIGINAL MINT SOURCE name in big letters on the front. Ok, so we’ll be making no mistakes in picking up the wrong product! However, let’s give it a chance – it’s cheap and cheerful and also states ‘New Improved Recipe.’ Hang on, isn’t everything?!?
THE EXPERIENCE
The shampoo is green in colour and not too thick in its consistency. Forgive me if I am stating the obvious but the scent is totally minty. If you don’t like mint you will absolutely loathe this - it’s mint mint minty mint and there is no mistaking that! Personally, I love it as I am sure a lot of other people would, but it does smell very strongly so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
It's simple to apply: as with all shampoo simply wet hair fully, squeeze a small amount (yes, only a small amount, it lathers well) into the palm of your hand and lather thoroughly through hair then rinse and apply conditioner. The cap is well designed as it is not too fiddly to operate in the shower (and it doesn’t break your nails either girls!)
Whilst lathering and massaging the soapy foam on your head take a moment to breathe - it's great! Really refreshing! I think possibly the best point of this product is the fresh minty aroma. You might also feel a tingly sensation going over your scalp if you've massaged it in thoroughly. This sensation reduces over time as you continue using it (which could be a good or bad thing!)
THE RESULTS
According to the manufacturer this shampoo is suitable for frequent use (stated in small type on the bottom of the bottle), but they would say that wouldn't they?
I would say that after blow drying my hair in the normal way it leaves my hair feeling really clean, fresh and slightly volumised. However, it does tend to reduce the amount of shine on my hair which I don't really like. I have also noticed that with continued use it dries out my hair (which isn't great when I still have the slight remainders of highlights making the ends dry).
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY
£2.49 for 250ml. There is no denying it is a bargain! It lasts for ages because it is a fair sized bottle and is sold absolutely everywhere...supermarkets, chemists, Boots etc.
VERDICT
I guess for the money you can't expect miracles. I think it'd be suitable for once a week application on 'normal' hair but if you have coloured or treated hair I'd steer clear. It could be good for oily/greasy hair though, as it may help to dry up the oil.
Personally I shan't be buying this again - I'll stick to their shower gels!
