INTRODUCTI ON

I?m such a sucker for clever marketing gimmicks, but hey it?s what I started off doing in my career so I shouldn?t knock it. Perhaps that?s why I like them really? Anyway, nothing gives me more pleasure than the thought that I?m getting a bargain so when I saw Original Source shampoos on BOGOF (buy one get one free) in Sainsbury, I just couldn?t pass them by. At £2.79 for a 250-ml bottle, I would be unlikely to buy it one bottle at a time, unless it is on some kind of offer. I?m one of those oddballs that actually **loves** the sensation of Original Source Mint Shower Gel, and likes shaving her legs with Original Source Menthol & Tea Tree Shaving Gel, so when I saw Original Source Shampoo available in Spearmint I just had to give it a try. The other one I procured was the Lavender variety but I?ll save that for another review.

THE PACKAGING ?

Is somewhat plain. A standard plastic bottle containing 250ml of clear sea blue shampoo. But it?s the branding of Original Source products that makes it stand out head and shoulders (pardon the pun) above the myriad of competition.
The logo is BOLD and its LARGE. It really is kind of ?in yer face? if you like. You can?t miss it. A red flash at the bottom of the bottle tells me that this is a ?NEW RECIPE?.

The reverse of the bottle provides much more information than is ordinarily expected from such a product, including the paragraph quoted above. Another paragraph promises the delights to come from the shampooing experience ? ?The fresh minty aroma gives you an exhilarating and reviving sensation like nothing you?ve ever felt before.?

There are also comprehensive directions on how to derive maximum benefit from the experience as well as an exceptionally detailed ingredient listing. One thing lets it down though ? the company have crowded so much information onto the reverse label that even someone with reasonable eyesight, will struggle to read it. I did, and my eyes are really not that bad.

USING THE PRODUCT

I thoroughly soaked my hair under the shower, squeezed a handful of shampoo into my palm and applied to my hair. (Living in hard water London, a 10p/50p size blob would be of no use at all, it really does need to be a handful ? I?ve got relatively small hands LOL!). It is recommended that you massage the shampoo into your hair and scalp building up a nice lather (yes, it did lather nicely) and then ?leave on for a minute and feel the unique formula working?.

Full of anticipation I left the soapy mass foaming on my hair and waited ?. And waited ?.. and waited some more. No sensation, no exhilaration, no sense of rejuvenation? Just that sense of being covered in shampoo. I admit to being a little disappointed as those of you who have been brave enough to try Original Source Mint Shower Gel will know th
at it?s really minty, is strong, exhilarating and enlivening perhaps. Fair enough ? this was Spearmint and not Mint, but I was still expecting some kind of fresh, tingling feeling on my scalp. It just didn?t happen.

The shampoo rinses out well and you don?t feel if you?re left with a residue of shampoo, which I often find a problem with some of the creamier, claim to be moisturising versions. This is where the shampoo comes into its own as whilst rinsing from your hair, a heady aroma of spearmint is very, very evident. It was very refreshing, and reminded me of a cross between Colgate Deep Clean Sensation Toothpaste and Wrigley?s Extra Spearmint gum. Not at all unpleasant. Quite the opposite, I?d have been happy to be using this as a shower gel!
After use, I could faintly smell the spearmint aroma after towel drying my hair. I rarely blow dry and I do wonder if the heat of drying might release more of the smell? But my hair felt really clean, squeaky-clean even.

Although my hair is short, it is very thick and I experienced no problems with tangles. Once dry, I was really quite amazed and impressed at the end result. Healthy, shiny, glossy dark hair looking back at me from the mirror. It?s the kind of shine I get usually only from a conditioning treatment. Even better, my hair was soft and silky to the touch.

Now, although I didn?t experience the tingling exhilaration that I?d anticipated, it?s a great product and I think it?s one of those aromas that is much more evident to other people than it is to you ? like a good perfume? I asked hubby to sniff my hair and describe what it smelt like. He screwed up his nose, looked confused, took a good whiff and said ?you smell like chewing gum hen, but it smells nice and fresh and good enough to eat?. Well, that?s good enough for me!

I love it. I?d buy it again. I?d even consider paying **full price** for it and that?s something. I loved the smell it generated upon rinsing and adored the final effect on my hair ? the shiny glossy vision of loveliness! Although tempted to give this five stars out of five, I have to knock one off for the simple fact that it doesn?t tingle or invigorate in the way that I?d expected ? so it?s 4/5 for me.

Buy it, try it. I?m sure you won?t be disappointed.
